Can't believe Acura did away with the exhaust on the TLX

I am pretty disappointed that the new TLX doesn't have exhaust tips. The car was pretty sweet looking until I noticed the back, I always thought Acura had some on the nicest looking exhaust tips. What are they thinking!!!! Now it looks electric

it follows the design language.
if you've been following the ILX, the MDX, and the new RLX, you would have notice that none of them have exhaust tips.

and the new TLX would follow.

well... if someone really wants it, there is a way to make them visible ;-)

And strictly speaking, they don't even have to be functional. I'm thinking that when I upgrade/refresh to the TLX, I might line the bumper with 10 or 12 of them. It'll look so fast.

I was disappointed as well. I felt better when I saw that the rear had the vents for the pipes. I hope that design holds. In my opinon, the worst thing they did with RLX is hide tail pipes but they are not really hidden. You can see the plan ole ugly exhaust pipes hanging underneath the car at certain angles. If you gonna make a car like that, at least put the finishing touch on it.

They didn't seem firm on the tips in the interview I think they said their initial design wouldn't have them.

Can someone explain to me what hidden exhaust tips are? Are the tips behind the grill/mesh thing in the rear bumper?

As boe_d said, they designer of the TLX did mention that most of the TLX would not have the dual exhaust tips visible however, the NSX and a version of the TLX would likely have it. So lets not despair

Its exactly that. There is no cutout for tips, and nothing visible.

RLX..

Notice the mufflers tucked up and behind bumper so that nothing is seen. No exhaust cutout or tips.

I've always liked the look of a dual exhaust outlet setup. To me, it makes the car appear more aggressive. I dislike the way the most recent Audi A4 looks with an exhaust outlet on just one side.

Under the RLX SH AWD from a recent car show. Is an indication of things to come? See how far back the tips are.

LOL! I tried to get as close underneath as I could, looking for the electric motors that are very well hidden. Me down on my knees and a bunch of Acura people around wondering what the hell this guy is doing

Dual tips on a V6/I4 car with single exhaust in the middle is pretty played out, seems like every cheap car has it now, has zero effect on performance. Give me a V8 with true dual exhaust and headers and then it's worth having exhaust tips, but even my SS I have dumped by the rear axle. Seriously played out.

Many V6 cars come with dual piping and exhaust now and not just a single pipe split into 2 at the rear

What cars are like that? I have SH-AWD and it appears to be two pipes but the one pipe is split at the front of the car. The FWD shows the pipe splitting in the back. I lost this same argument a while back atl east with Acura line. I would like to know of a production I4/v6 with true dual exhaust.

I didnt say True Dual, and Just because the exhaust merges into one pipe (usually a cat) and back out to 2 doesnt mean its not true dual. Merging of the exhaust is done to equalize cyl pressure

And to answer your question about "true" dual, the Genesis sedan v6 has it

Cool, good to know. I wasn't doubting ya. I was curious. In addition, I was bitched out by some exhaust expert sometime ago about what is true dual and they didn't buy the cat theory. I'm no expert. Which is why I asked.

LOL, I can't believe that anybody would be surprised by this? ILX, RDX, MDX, RLX all have hidden exhausts. It's a trend...

I forgot about the new Taurus has true dual as well. I have one of those complete exhaust systems laying in my garage

Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but the ILX folks are working on it... https://acurazine.com/forums/ilx-382/exhaust-modification-diy-large-pics-886111/

Just an fyi if you're not aware... the 4 cylinder will not have exposed exhausts.... only the V6 models. The 4 cylinder's rear/bumper is directly carried over from the previous model.
