Buy a 2013 TL SH-AWD or wait for TLX?
Hi guys.
I'm shopping for a sport sedan and I'm leaning towards the Tl Shawd, f30 335i, even considering a 2013 or 2014 wrx as a last resort.
Do you think it would be foolish to buy a 2013 Shawd with 5k miles for appx 35k or wait for the Tlx?
Really interested in Tlx espy how they say they focused on a super quiet interior

If I were you, if you could wait, and if money were not an issue, I would wait for the TLX. I am being super optimistic here.... but I suspect that if you get the 4G TL SH-AWD, you might be kicking yourself when the TLX SH-AWD comes out.... but once again, I am being super optimistic!!! I am not sure why I should but I guess I am a fool for Acura.... sigh!
On the other hand, if $35K is your budget, then go ahead and get the 2013 TL SH-AWD.... BTW, is it an Advance model? Or???

OP...I share Ostrich's view as well. If you are not on a tight budget and can afford to wait, I would wait to see the production TLX released in NY in April. It would be a shame to spend 35k on a TL and then realize the TLX was everything you wanted in a car. Should the TLX not be what you turns your crank, there will still be some TL SH-AWD available with some discounts to be had (maybe limited if you want the stick or a specific color combo).
What both of us, Canadian wise guys, are saying is that being so close to have all the pieces of the TLX puzzle so why risk it when you can make an informed decision shortly.
Again...if you can't wait or can't afford a TLX, then the TL SH-AWD is still an a AMAZING vehicle and one you will not be disappointed with.

1) Wait for pricing on the TLX.
2) If you can wait even longer, wait for the performance numbers on the TLX.

Too close to not wait.

I would just wait for the TLX release, find out the pricing which shouldn't be crazy higher than its predecessor.
I know in about a year or two I will be in the market to upgrade from my 3G TL, this 5G TL looks great in my eyes. IDGAF if people think its less than stellar performance or appearance wise.
I like Acuras a lot and the beak grill has grown on my quite a bit.

I generally agree, but remember that even if the MSRP is similar, the transaction price could be very different considering the incentives on the outgoing model. (IMO of course)

I would wait to see what the TLX has to offer. We should see by the NYAIS in April what to expect from the TLX and you can decide at that point if it is worth waiting to see one in dealerships or if it makes sense for you to steal a deal on a 2014 TL while they are still in stock.

So I'm sure the final price will differ on the 4G than a new 5G TLX. But seeing those spyshots and the camo one on the freeway by a member the rear is a bit too plain.
Really hope the change it before NYAIS. I seriously can wait for it, I want to take advantage of the Graduate program through Acura as I plan to graduate this year which gives you a 2 year time frame to be eligible.

Based on the cars you're considering, it looks like you might want a manual transmission, which won't be available in the TLX at launch. I expect it to be available later, but we might be waiting a year or two, and it might not be available with all trim levels and drivetrains.
BTW, if you want low road noise, the WRX probably won't do it. Autoweek just reviewed the new version, and commented on the noisy ride. (They loved it in general though.) The Focus ST, on the other hand, is amazingly quiet for a hot hatch. On the highway, I thought it produced less noise than my TSX. The F30 BMW's are quiet too.

Check out the TLX first, before deciding on which to buy.

Dude wait for TLX. Trust me, you will live to regret it forever if you don't. It will cause you a lot of sleepless nights. The TLX is what's hot, I CAN'T WAIT for it to come out.
I'm gonna get the Athletic Red.. which one are you thinking of? I think Athletic Red is the best color.

I would wait to see an actual production TLX unless you have a time sensitive reason to buy sooner that its release.

Personally, if I don't get the car within the first two model years, I just skip out on it altogether .Meaning that 2010 would have been the last year to get the 4G. Anything past that, I am moving on to something else. Just like when they did the MMC in 2012, I would never buy a vehicle that late in it's cycle because the design was already in it's fourth year. So in short, skip out on the 2013 because in a few months the TLX will be out and you will have buyers remorse .

In other words, on the Bleeding Edge of the rollout of the TLX, everybody will be wanting one and the dealers will be acting like they are doing you a favor selling you one in the color you want.
So.... 35,000 v. a likely 48,000 ?
It doesn't sound like you are necessarily shopping at that high end, and if you are not then that's an easy choice for you.
The 4G TL is quite solid, a truly excellent and long-live'd car. Mine had 86,000 on it and not a dime was spent on it other than regular maintenance and new OEM tires at 66,000.
On the other hand, if you can afford closer to 50,000 then sure, wait for the TLX. Although the motor isn't rated for that much more HP than the J37 in the 4G, the various tuning improvements make the J35Y4 in my RLX feel like a lot more than 310 HP.
But consider the money first, IMHO. It sounds like you're not necessarily shopping at the higher end.
