Any reliable info on 2016 TLX changes, new models, and ETA?
 

Hello all,
am honing in on new sedans and the TLX is on the short-list (currently an Accord driver, and bought my wife an MDX in 2010, which we still have). So the layup would be to keep it in the family, and the TLX looks to be the best bang-for-the-buck out there.

But as always right around this time of year, I am hesitant to buy a 2015, especially when I see Acura is already showing the MDX and RLX as 2016 refreshes.

There's a lot of "junk" out there when doing an internet search... all speculations, with no firm details or news on 2016 changes or model intros for the TLX. Anyone work at a dealership or has an inside scoop on if there will be a performance hybrid (yanking all the goodies out of the RLX hybrid) and/or a Type-S model coming?

Brian they never do a refresh of any sort 2nd year

The ILX/MDX/RLX got refreshed as they weren't brand new - the 2016 TLX will likely have a slightly higher MSRP and maybe some transmission ghosts exercised - maybe a couple new colors if you're lucky. Otherwise I wouldn't hold my breath for any changes.

Things that might happen:

-the addition of "AcuraWatch" trims in between base and tech models so as to fit in with the rest of the lineup.
-new Colors
-A "Base" SHAWD trim?

They can do those things without much investment I think. They don't want to do too much in terms of features or performance as it just diminishes the impact of the new model and messes with resale value.

It looks like Acura will have nothing new for New York - I'm guessing the release of the '16 RDX soon is their media hit for April/May. Hopefully NSX first drives hit June and it gets released in summer sometime. The '16 TLX should hit sometime late summer but maybe Acura will have another vehicle to show us by then at LA? Acura seemed to front load this year - I'm thinking they just want everything out of the way for the NSX this summer.

According to this Honda news release, in the 2nd model year of the original TSX, Acura added XM® Satellite Radio, heated door mirrors and a 4-way power adjustable passenger seat. 2005 Acura TSX- Interior - Honda.com

That is correct! They also added lit steering wheel controls that my 04 doesn't have. Grrrr.

^^ Clearly changes happen, but they're the exception not the rule. I agree with itodd that they are most likely to add AcuraWatch to the base, and this could cause some changes in content to other models, but it's unlikely there will be a lot of changes. Consider that the RDX went 3 years with only (one) color change. RLX lost trims, but no real changes to existing cars, ILX was the same for 3 (2.5) years and if any car needed help, that was the one.

Given that there is an A Spec for the 2016 ILX, it's certainly possible for the TLX. Maybe the Acurawatch is included as an option.

I agree. Plus there was a bigger gap in technology and conveniences between years with older models so there was a legitimate need to add numerous items throughout the years vs. the newer models that come loaded with pretty much everything.

There could be some minor changes to the interior and a couple of different colors possibly- perhaps some of the Canada model features will migrate to the U.S. version possibly. I think Acura needs to keep its eye on the ball and not lose the momentum it has built up with this model so it would be nice if it made some real improvements to the car so it continues to compete well.

Besides Acura watch, it seems RLX 2016 got a suspension update. And advanced trim got a 360-degree view camera.

if true, this alone is worth the wait if you're deciding between a '15 and '16.

In Canada, I would expect the acurawatch package added to all models ,and the prices raised accordingly...

If it is like the 2016 mdx/ rdx, you will be forced to take and pay for this schit, if you want the vehicle...:2cents::annoyed:

I'm interested to see the 360 degree camera in action - can't seem to find any videos on the Internets.

Yes, but it's also not the second year for the RLX and to be fair, it needs more content at it's price point.
For the US there is still a base MDX available if you don't want Acurawatch. Is Canada going to be different? Will there be fewer trims?

I'd hope for....

- New wheels for the I4.
- If they added an Advance trim to the I4 that would be great. Don't remove any content, just drop in the I4. (probably won't happen)
- Fix all the tranny issues.

I thought you said you weren't having any problems with your TLX and loved it?

Aye - I'm quite happy with my TLX and do love the car. The problems I have are minor (I would call them "quirks" as opposed to issues) however given what we know today about the DCT (It looks like both the TLX and the refreshed ILX share similar traits) if a friend asked my opinion I would suggest they wait to the Fall to pull the trigger on one.

Both the new ILX and new MDX have acurawatch as standard in Canada, for better or worse.

TLX plus acurawatch standard? awesome. but then, that takes down the Advance model down a peg or two, right?

May seem some model changes in Canada. There's a stockpile of FWD V6's, production has finished for the year and there's $4,000 incentive. Looks like people only want the SH-AWD or 4 banger.

2015 TLX production is DONE? As in they aren't going to build any more TLX until the 2016s start rolling down the line?

It seems like, here in the states, the SHAWD and I4 are the ones in demand as well.

If they can mate the DCT to SHAWD (which I don't think they can yet) I still say a SHAWD I4 version would be great. SHAWD only adds 180 lbs to the V6 version after all. 180 lbs is a person in the back seat! It would still be faster than the IS250AWD.

Also an Advance I4 trim would seem sensible - along with a base V6 SHAWD trim.

no just V6 FWD production is done. It would make sense, maybe not economically, to replace it with an awd 4 cyl...but better to wait for the turbo version.

price. time it and you get a cheaper '15?

I'll be interested to see how Acura uses the turbo moving forward - it'd be nice to see a ~220 hp version akin to the Audi 2.0T taking over for the K24 but I don't know if Acura wants to do that.

Certianly they need to have more SHAWD versions as soon as possible.

I think the 2015 model debuted in Jul/Aug. You mean that Acura has enough FWD stock to take them to Jul/Aug? Or the 2016's will come before that. Doesn't make sense to end production on these models so soon.

So true - especially as we're rolling into the Spring car shopping season!

Perhaps it's just for Canada, where non-AWD premium cars are increasingly getting rarer.

I'm personally hoping for a S-type version, update headlights a la RDX(extra LED line below the jewel), updated android OS a la new Pilot, and it would REALLY be great to have pano roof.

I'm holding out on the MDX for the same potential upgrades (minus) the s-type.

Hate to get a new car and see a newer more stylish version 5 months later.

i wish for an A Spec model to pair up with either I4 and V6. and LED front turn signals ala '16 ILX.

That would only make too much sense, let's hope. I may then forgive for them for the ugly reflectors in place of where exhaust tips should be........maybe.

My hope is for a hybrid turbo unit with foglights included in the tech package :) But I want the hybrid to concentrate on MPG with decent acceleration like the 2015 Accord. They hybrid they proposed for the RLX and ILX is more like the 2005 accord hybrid - not a lot of advantage and my guess is that is why there wasn't a lot of demand. They couldn't get the 2005 accord hybrid off the lot and they can't keep the 2015 accord hybrid ON the lot.

Based on yesterdays release of the 2016 Acura RDX, it appears more certain that the 2016 TLX will have an Acurawatch trim level.

This is both good and bad news. The good news would be that the 2.4 model may come with Advance trim features like Collision Mitigation Braking System and Adaptive Cruise Control (WITHOUT low-speed follow). For the 2015 TLX, you have to buy a V6 engine with Advance package to get those features.

The bad news would be that they would have to raise the price by $1,200 for those who want the Acurawatch + Tech. packages (just like the 2016 RDX).

I can't imagine any TLX with AcuraWatch would not have low speed follow. The production complexities for that set up would not justify the difference in feature content. The MDX has LSF even on its AcuraWatch only trim level.

The only reason why ILX and RDX do not have low speed follow is likely because the engineering to implement these systems is probably too complex for a mid model change.

You might be right. I only speculated there is no low speed follow in the adaptive cruise control because it is not offered with the 2016 RDX.

It would be great if the TLX 2.4 gets this feature along with Lane Keep Assist. It's basically like the car is driving itself.

This is precisely why I'm holding off until late fall. My 07 TL-S 6MT is starting to get pretty worn down (I drive a lot).

I'll be somewhat sad to give up my manual, but if the auto issues are fixed, I'll be fine with it. I'm not so young these days anymore since I started this account (31 now, lol).

TTT - checking back in to see if anyone has any updated info on the 2016 changes, additions, options, etc. ?

I am hoping the dealerships start to be more loose-lipped, but also know they are likely protecting all the 2015's sitting on the lots!

Dealerships are usually the last to know. I really don't expect any changes except getting an AcuraWatch version slipped between base and Tech. :2cents:
