I say C-Class or Sonata.

It has some stiff competition.

If there was an award "We couldn't care less about what journalists write", Honda/Acura would win by a landslide.

As much as I want to believe anything torque news writes, I can't. Fact is each brand page on torque news is full of wishful thinking by hacks for that brand. I've even seen some downright lies stated as fact on the Subaru TN page.

On the other hand I don't think it's fair to say it's a mediocre product, either. Acura now has a sedan with refinement/NVH characteristics worthy of Audi and MB, the powertrains are good, the tech. is good, and so is the price. It's not a revelation like the C-Class apparently is, but where value is concerned, it's a contender.

Sure, there's always something better and if that's how awards were decided they'd skip all of the other nominees and just give awards to the latest offerning from Rolls-Royce. For most buyers they're looking for a product where they can get the most ____ and ____ for their money. At that point perceived "value" becomes an important attribute to a product's success in the marketplace.

^it's just a tough segment for Acura to be in right now.
I'm going to look past the Rolls royce comment, clearly it isnt even in the same class of cars.
you have Ford doing amazing things with ecoboost.
Hyundai and Kia are up and comers and wouldnt sleep on them.
the point is, there are so many cars in the segment and if Acura wants to play ball, they will have to step up their game even further than what they are doing now.

Don't disagree. In some cases you can get more "stuff" on a 'plain old' Sonata/Optima than TLX, like heated rear seats just to name one. Acura cannot afford to rest and needs to push with a strong MMC on this car in a couple years. But at this moment in time the strong value proposition may be enough for it to contend with the C-Class for this award even though the C is a better car in many respects.

However worthy and successful it is, the TLX isn't sufficiently interesting or significant to win something like this. Since this is the North American Car of the Year, how could it be anything but the new Mustang?
#18
Mustangs suck. This guy is hoping TLX gets it although I'm still concerned with its 0-60 numbers. Let's not even mention Kias in here. They also suck, sir.

Hyundai is a media darling and the C looks like a solid car in class. But I bet it goes to the highest placing car from an American nameplate.

I can't see any scenario where the TLX could win this.

I would be extremely surprised if it won this.

I prefer smaller, lighter cars myself, but having driven a 2011 GT with 6MT, I would not say it sucked, and the new one is supposed to be vastly improved.

Just saw my first TLX today-the dealership said the AWD models arrive in 2-3 weeks.

Tough crowd on a "fan" site. Go back and read the pro. reviews. This is a better car than both cars it replaces just at a time when Acura needed it most; that's worth something in and of itself. An Acura sedan finally has a cohesive exterior design on all 4 sides and refinement to match MB or BMW. It may lack some outright luxury of Mercedes and some outright driving dynamics of BMW but it's also cheaper to buy and own than competing cars from those manufacturers (and likely more reliable). Will it win? No idea. Does it deserve to be on the 'short list'? Absolutely.

So you've driven the 2015 Mustang with the independent rear, and actually know this from experience? Please, elaborate.

I think it's between the TLX, the Genesis or Sonata and the 200. They offer the most bang for your buck. TLX is made in Ohio so I can see it taking this title and that is my pick

My guess, based on the trend lately in automotive journalism, will be: either the Chrysler 200 or the Ford Mustang. Recently MotorTrend voted the 2014 Z/28 as best driver's car, setting the pace for all-American domination in every car award out there in the US.
I am willing to bet my sway bar left side rusted linkage bolts on it

false expectations. Why nomine a car when the magazine dont have any
any conclusive performance data ?? or how it flare n the group ??
#37
it isnt a press darling? have you not read the 95% of the reviews that have been overwhelming positive?

Would it be a fair and justified win or would you think it was not a fair assessment of the car?
A cars viability IS NOT based purely on numbers on a page (performance data). Believe it or not, cars are actually driven to see what they can do.

Let's say, just for the sake of argument, that the TLX does win. I know it far fetched but let's imagine that it does.
