Yokohama YK580 Tires - Experience?

I just purchased a 2010 TL AWD with the oem 19" rims and Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The car just turned 13K miles and the Michelin tires are going to need to be replaced soon. I live in Portland Oregon where we deal with a lot of rain and occasionally a little bit of snow. I'm looking for a replacement tire that will still give me very good performance but also all-season grip. I thought I had narrowed my choice down to the Contintental DWS...but I was just at America's Tires and they clued me into the Yokohama YK580. Apparently this is a newer tire. Has anyone had experience with it?

Haven't looked into the YK580, but the Conti DWS's are excellent...

Snowed all day yesterday (NY), at the worset point I was in almost 8" of snow and between the AWD/conti I felt as if I was in a plow truck. I dunno what deserves more credit but the combination of the two was unbelievable.

Hello neighbor,
The best all season tire for the this car is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. Ask the America's/Discount CSR they will confirm. You wll get similar handling to the PS2's with better winter adhesion. I bought the Yoko Avid Env for the RDX and wish I had spent more money. Don't be cheap.
Tires are the most important saftey feature on your vehicle.

I have not driven with the new yk580's. However, for the past two and a half years the tires on my TSX have been the yk520's. These tires are awesome!!! They are very responsive and very quiet on the highway. I drive about 80 miles round trip everyday to and from work. So I value a quiet tire. The Michelin HxMxM4's my car came with, wore out very quickly and the braking performance I noticed was not all that great.
Do not think that just because a tire is expensive that it is superior. Michelin makes a lot of great tires and it makes a lot of crappy tires too. The Pilot Sport All season Plus's that were quoted above are a great All Season tire. I say this because a friend of mine has now replaced his tires 3 times in a row with that Michelin line. The last time with those Plus's. The Plus model is really only about 1 year old. Thus far it is performing like the previous Pilot All Season model.

The problem with these tires is that they wear out farely quickly. My friend's car is a rear-wheel drive C-Class. Meaning the tires on those cars last longer than if driven on a front wheel drive car like the TSX and the TL. Front-wheel drive car's tires pull double duty. They pull the car and steer as well. Instead, on a rear wheel drive car, each axle has its own task. Anyhow, my friend is replacing his Michelin's every 28-30 thousand miles.

Okay back to the Yokohama's. I really have no complaint about them whatsoever. Thus far they have about 40k miles on them and I would say they have another 10 thousand to go. They still perform well for the type of driving I do. I would like some more data on the yk580's but given that they are an improvement on the yk520's I currently have, I would not hesitate to give them a try.

The thing I like most about the yk520's is that they are Made in the USA. Imagine that a Japanese company making tires in the US!!! From looking at the TireRack info for the Pilot Sport A/S Plus's they are also made here. Its a toss up. Do not discount the yoko's.

Thanks for the reminder. I tried to buy them direct from McGard, but they wouldn't sell them to me because it violates their agreement with Acura. I just keep forgetting to pick them up at dealer when I'm there. Might as well just get um on-line right now.

YK580 just came out so no experience. But previously I had YK520 and Conti DWS in my mom's 3 series. Both are good, but the YK520 seems to wear faster, that's why we moved to Conti DWS and was very happy with it. You can check tirerack's review for comparison.

My car is a 2005 Acura RL. I had the standard Michelin Pilot HMXM all seasons as well as the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. the Pilot A/S were getting worn so I decide to replace them with the Yokohama YK580's. (245-45/18). I have had them now for 2 months and 2500 miles so can provide some input from my experience.

The YK580 are made partly from Orange Oil and they claim better gas mileage. The rolling resistance is less then the Pilot A/S which I felt right away. Highway mileage is better by 1 mpg but no chance in city mileage.

Dry grip is great...corners likes a slot car...I would say equal to the Pilot Sport A/S and better then the HMXM.

Wet grip is very good...about the same as the HMXM. The Pilot A/S were worn, and the last I recall they were slippery like crazy..but that's comparing the YK580 (new) to worn Pilot A/S.

The ride is about the same as the HMXM and better then the Pilot A/S. I have A-spec suspension on my RL and the Pilot A/S were borderline hard-a** but the YK580 corrected that.

I have no experience with them in the snow so cannot comment.

One thing that I have notice is that the YK580 takes a 'set' in the morning and it takes about 6 miles of driving to get them warm up for the 'set' to go away....

So far, I am very happy with the YK580's...they were reasonable priced at Discount Tires..

Thread is dead. In fact, so dead that he started another one, on the same subject...the following year...which is also dead.
