wheel upgrade

Question......i have a sh-awd with 18s. Thinking about upgrading to 19s. Is it possible to go with 19s and and stay with a 45 profile. I know the 19s come with 40 but my thinking is that the 45 will help keep the ride from getting any harsher, protect the wheels from pot holes and help fill in the gap between the wheel arches. Not interested in lowering the car. Yes, the speedometer will be off a bit but so far the pros outway the cons for me.

I don't see a reason why you couldn't do this. I mean you're speedo will be off by like 4%, but (to me) it looks like there is more than enough room in the wheel well for the added size. I'm sure someone who knows more about this will chime in.

This is a good question that I would definitely like to know the answer to. Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but why would the speedo be off?

The stock tire on the 19" wheel have a diameter of 26.7" (245/40R19). If you go with a 245/45/19 the diameter will be 27.6"., so it's only about an inch larger diameter, so I would think it would fit.

And like Pete mentioned the speedo will read about 3.6% slower than your actual speed. (At 60 mph actual, indicated speed will be about 57-58 mph.)

This website http://www.1010tires.com has a wheel/tire size calculator for you to try out different size combos to see what the affect will be for different setups.

Rcopeland,

The speedo is off as the circumference of the larger tire/wheel combo is larger, in this case by about 3". This in turn means the wheel will turn less revs per mile as the stock size(751 versus 778), which translates into a slower indicated speed.
