What struts/shocks for 20's?
I'm considering swapping out the stock 18" wheels on my 2011 TL for some 20's with lower profile tires to more or less retain the same overall diameter. I will not be lowering the vehicle. My concern is that the ride will be too harsh since there will be significantly less rubber. Are there struts/shocks on the market for the TL with different valving where I can re-use the factory springs and achieve a near stock ride? I'm okay with a little stiffness but am not okay with harshness

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you're trying to keep the same diameter while upping the wheel size, you're going to have 2 whole damn inches less of sidewall.. It's going to be fucking harsh anyway you cut it...
You're not going to be able to have your cake and eat it too bud..

There would actually be 22 mm less sidewall between the wheel and pavement. Maybe I'll just go with the stock 245/40-19 size. Do the tech models with 19's have different valving than those that came with the 18's? Actually, I wouldn't mind going a tad larger in overall diameter to fill in the wheel well since I won't be lowering. I can live with the speedo being off a bit. This would be 245/40-20. That's a non-standard size though, whereas 245/35-20 is pretty standard.

You might be able to get a more comfortable ride, air suspension is probably going to be your best bet but lots of $ done right. 20's on the 3G TL or 4G TL is asking for a rough ride. Coilovers are going to be firmer even on their softest setting vs the stock setup.
With the larger diameter you are thinking about, you may have to worry about rubbing esp when turning. 245/35/20 is going to be almost the same as factory size. 245/40/20 is going to be more than 3% off.

The Original Shawdy
Standard tire size on our vehicle on 19x8 +55 is 245/40/19. I wouldn't stray from that. Otherwise you are gonna have some fat ass tires. You want the most comfort, stick with the oem 17's or 18's. Won't be able to beat it.
