Tire review - Pilot Super Sport.
Summer is finally here, and it's time to try out some newest high performance summer rubbers.
So I bought a set of light-weight 19" wheels and Pilot Super Sport (max performance summer tire) of size 245/40/19. The OEM 19" wheels will be used for snow tires for the winter months.
When compared with the crappy OEM RS-A, the PSS has stiffer sidewalls and I can now feel the imperfections on the roads better. In a performance sense, I have better connection with the roads. In a comfort ride sense, the ride is rougher. The PSS is also noticeably noisier than the touring RS-A tires.
Both the stiffer sidewalls and the noisier ride are typical of very high performance summer tires, when compared to the easy and super-quiet ride of the touring all-season OEM tires.
In the dry, the PSS has unbelievable grip. It sticks to the roads like crazy glue, and now the car can take corners at frightening speeds. It's almost impossible for the PSS to break loose on dry asphalt.
In the wet, the PSS is equally amazing with it's wet grips. This is totally out of my expectation since the tread design is composed mainly of big rubber blocks and narrow inter-block rain-dispersing cutout channels.
The PSS is 3 lbs lighter than the OEM RS-A per tire, and when combined with the weight saving from the light-weight wheel, my estimate is at least 8 lbs improvement per corner in unsprung weight.
Simply amazing super-sticky summer tires.

^^^ good to hear some more feedback on the Pilot SS,I also have them and couldn't be happier.
I actually find them to be more quiet than the oem Michelin and they seem to soak up bumps much better.
Wet, dry and cornering characteristics are all significantly improved.
