Snow Tires 2010 SH-AWD
Live near Jackson Wyoming, and ski every weekend. Need some recommendations for snow tires. My drive consists of 70 miles of dry pavement followed by 90 miles of snow packed mountain pass (9800 ft elevation) and snow packed roads. Little ice but usually white clean snow packed down smooth. Have had FWD cars with snow tires my Pirellis, Michelins, Dunlops, Yokahamas, and one set of Blizzaks. All were at least ok with Blizzaks and Dunlops being the best.
Now I have the AWD and want new rims, leaning toward 17 inchers mounting 224/55-17. Just about the exact same diameter as the 245/45-18 that are on it. OR keeping the stock 18 inch diameter wheels and mounting the 245/55-18 same size tire.
Looked at Blizzak, but there seems to only be Blizzaks High Performance snow tread available, rather than the more aggressive thread. Also looking aand leaning toward Nokian. both sizes available in the WRG2, but Hakka R are available in the 17 inchers.
Has anyone put 17 inchers (-1s) on a 09 or 10 SH- AWD. OR has anyone put snows tires on period. Any and all opinions will be welcome.

I got snow tires on my 2010 last year. Dunlop Wintersport M3's. I opted to put them on my 18's since I knew I was going to buy 20's for the summer. I love the wintersports, and have driven in hard packed snow and wet stuff as well. They haven't let me down yet.

My 2006 TL had Dunlop Wintersport M3s and also my 2008 Impreza 5 Door has the M3s also. Guess what I will be getting for my 2010 TL.
The M3s have performed amazingly on my 2006 even in the most extreme conditions which is why I will be sticking with it.

Ran the Blizzak LM-25's on 19's last winter and they performed flawlessly. Will be running them again this winter.
The LM-25's that I have are being closed out on Tire Rack (here).
I am not entirely sure as to whether or not they are being replaced by the LM-60's, as the 60's are only rated at an H speed rating (although I would hope that people are not pushing 130mph on these).

I also have a set of the Dunlop WinterSport M3's on the stock 18" wheel. Not 100% sure but I don't believe the Acura 17" wheel will fit the SH-AWD(bolt pattern is different, and brake clearance). The WinterSport M3's have performed very well down here in Colorado last winter. Never ran into any conditions they couldn't handle, around town and in the mountains. I also ran a set of Dunlop WinterSports 3D's on my '06 TL and even though it wasn't AWD, they definitely made a difference the 3 years I ran them. So I'm pretty pleased with the Dunlop's.
Previous to the TL I had a set of Nokian Hakkapeliita 2's (studded) on a BMW 323 and they were probably one of the best performing snow tires I've had. They did great back east in the upstate NY lake effect snow and out here in Colorado. They can be a bit hard to find and pricey, but well worth it IMO.
Another decent snow tire I used in the past is Vredestein on a 1st generation Acura Legend. Not sure if they are still in business though.
I think you'll be quite pleased of the performance of the SH-AWD with dedicated snows this winter.

Not that the Tire Rack is the definitive authority, but it list 40mm backset for 17 and 18 and 19 inch rims, all three sizes with 5-120 bolt spacing. I think 17s will fit.

Another great tire is the Michelin Alpin Pilot. My other car is a Subaru Legacy and they have them and they are supurb. They are so good that I am going to put them on my 2010 4G for this winter, as here in Montreal it's good to have good rubber.

I bought dedicated wheels & tires for the winter. The smallest size you can run are 17".
I had these last winter and the car is a tank in the snow.
