To Rim or Not to Rim

So, Im looking at my '12 TL Sh-AWD and thinking some wheels would be great. I've had the car just shy of a month. Now there's a great deal on a pair of 20's I want. ($2000 wheels, tires, lugs, locks, TPMS & shipped to me). Still debating about lowering the vehicle though and wouldn't want to put the wheels on and look like a truck.

How much do the OEM 18's wheels and tires (Mich) go for used?

Moding is way too addictive.

Also, I ordered the rear roof spoiler, anyone know where I can order the Flex paint for CPB?

I found OEM Enkei made 18s on the Bay for $225 each new, need to add Center Cap and TPMS, so about 325 each all said and done....I also purchased a clean set (minus one TPMS) of 18s on the Bay for 750 shipped....my 18 inch Pilot Sport AS 3s will be about 225 each installed, so right about 1600....way cheaper than what Acura wants

what kind of wheels.. tell me its not some cheap cast mmr/replica wheels....

also what kind of tires?

make sure they are hub centric

make sure the lugs they give you actually fits.. cant tell you how many times company just ship shit to you without knowing the specifics of the car.

remember to tell them its m14x1.5 and you need tunner lugs..

Looking at the Stance St1 or Niche Milan M215 (two piece Track wheel)

Either accelera, Nankang or Nitto.

Im actually going to buy my own lugs and locks for that same reason you mentioned.

lol, take my suggestion.. stay away from those cast wheels.. in which cost no more than 600-700 on craigslist.. and your tires should not cost more than your rims.. if that is, you are doing something wrong.. they are essentially making about 600-700 off from you.. which is alot of profit for them

drop another grand and get some forged, you will tank me later.

keep in mind, cast wheels shatter while forged wheels bend.. and only thing keeping you in contact with the ground is your wheels and tires.. once those one of those go out you are shit out of luck.

Yeah, I've seen your post about cast vs forged and I hear ya which is one of the reasons why Im hesitant. I also drive a lot so a high performance, sticky tire isn't needed.

Which wheels do you have? Size, offset etc

Most body/paint shops should be able to paint the roof spoiler for you. Only thing is that it might cost more than the spoiler lol. I got mine roof spoiler from the same seller and fitment was perfect.

Also if you do get the wheels, avoid Accelera Alpha tires. Crappy tires that developed 1/8" crack mid sidewall on all four tires on my daily. I got Nankang NS-20 right now, and can't complain for the price, but it's a stiff tire.

Cool. Thats what I thought about the fitment. I thought it would be better to get a product with a better fit and get it painted professionally than one that is prepainted and doesn't fit as nice.

Absolutely, avoiding Accelera tires. Im going to pay extra for a better quality tire.
Still debating the wheels though because I won't be lowering the car. We all know 4x4 look isn't where its at. Spoke to my service adviser about lowering the car and they said that changing to lowering springs or coilovers will quote the warranty on the suspension. I have a CPO car.

I'll start a tread about that.

New Roof spoiler came.

Ordered with the right code, correct code written on the spoiler but the wrong colour was sent. The ebay seller apologized and is sending a new one out with the right paint asap.

Wanted to install it today but at least I have the wheels.

Yups, that definitely not CBP.

I'll probably sell the grey one in the Black market.

It's always exciting to get new stuff. I might be getting new wheels soon too so I'm debating wether or not to sell my oem 09-11 SH-AWD gunmetal 18's (my fave oem wheel of all time..lol) or just keep them. Decisions, Decisions.....

Just my honest opinion

I definitely appreciate the honesty and it's also definitely a subjective choice of wheel.

Originally was going to go with a Niche Wheel but felt it was way too sporty and Im not going to be modifying my 4G like I did my 3G as it's my daily driver.

The 20's looks great in my opinion and once I'm dropped, it'll look better.

Waiting list for the M4 as it will be my weekend car.

P.S. I just couldn't bring myself to getting a set of vossens and look like every other 4G on the road. Bleh!

Haha, thanks Jackie. I've said it once and I'll say it another few hundred times, get what you originally want within reason. Getting something you're okay with instead of what you really want just to save a few bucks is a waste of money IMO. Been there, done that.

Paul you're also getting a set of 20's for the TL or did I misunderstand and you're getting an M4 & 20's for it?

Misread. I have 20's on the TL and definitely bought the choice I wanted. What I was saying is that the 4G is my daily driver and I will be getting the M4 as my weekend driver soon.
I wanted to go staggered on the 4G but I prefer the ability to rotate as I drive so much. Going with a square setup was the best.

Love how the car looks. Next is a much need drop.

Jackie mentioned something about 18's, I'm not sure wheres that's from.

Those are 20's?! I know a wheel w/ a lip will always look smaller than a full face wheel, but those look very small. We both assumed they're 18's. Lol you know what they say about assumptions.

^^^^^

Very true.

A wheel, especially with a polished lip, looks way smaller in size than it actually is.

Agreed. One of the drawbacks I considered but I like that look.

Side view.

Much better shot, it doesn't look as small as it did in previous pictures, might've just been the combination of the angles, dark portions and shadows.

yeah. Definitely the angle.

You have Coilovers? Do you have EDM? Is it necessary?

I have TEIN SS w/ EDFC. I love it. If you're going to set your suspension and forget it, EDFC isn't necessary.

Nice.
Im planning on installing the Street Advance myself. Doesn't seem that difficult but the back seat looks challenging.

Ordering soon. Can't be looking like a 4x4 for much longer.

Paul you'll need to get an alignment afterwards and remember that TEIN suspension doesn't include top hats so you'll have to reuse the stock ones unless you get a second set; you'll need to compress the springs. Depending on how low you'll go you'll also need a rear camber and maybe even front ball joints.

Wheel size for TL

What wheel sizes can fit the TL? If I wanted to fit 20 inch wheels.

that is a very broad question.. any wheel can fit as long as you have the right offset, and camber.. hell i can fit a 20x11 if i wanted to but it will have to be -6 camber in the rear.

You can go with 20x8.5 (size I have) or 20x9. You can choose to lower your vehicle with these sizes also without rolling your fenders depending on how low you go and the size tire you choose. I suggest going a standard +1 or +2 size to maintain the correct size.

Hope this helps.
