Welcome to the forum. Using search before posting new topics is usually a faster way to find out what you want to know, as this topic has been covered 1,000,000 times. (And so you won't get flamed for posting new topics without searching!!!!! The search button is your friend!)

Anyway based on what you're describing you might want to go with Tein H-Tech springs. A more subtle drop than most other lowering springs, but it still eliminates wheel gap and has a feel similar to OEM in terms of stiffness/ride. I just received mine recently and will be putting them on this weekend.

Enjoy!

so, your original and ultimate end goal is to get coils....but you're gonna waste $$ and time by going springs first???

you're wasting money and time by going springs first.
installing springs isnt a walk in the park, but then to do it over again to install coilovers!? thats just wasting time

Im not sure how picky you are (OP), but no aftermarket lowering spring is going to give you a comfortable ride. Well I take that back, any car is going to ride just fine on smooth roads, but on medium to large bumps, they all suck. IMO people that have lowering springs just deal with the shitty ride because they like the look.
I spent literally years researching lowering springs before I finally went with H&R Sport springs on my previous Type S (08 auto). Lets just say I finally got sick of the ride over bumps and put the stock ones back in. Dont get me wrong, the look was perfect and the ride was fine on good roads, but like I said on anything but smooth roads it was just soo annoying, and on big bumps darn right jolting and uncomfortable. These were also said to be among the softest springs available.

My understanding is that when using lowering springs your just taking the entire suspension out of geometry and eleminating most if not all of the suspension travel. I used stock shocks, and some people may claim aftermarket shocks fix that problem, but I havent tried them first hand. For the guys that use lowering springs that drop a lot, I dont know how you guys do it. The car has to ride soooo shitty.

So the moral of my story is, a medium drop using springs on stock shocks will get the job done, but your ride will suffer on medium to large bumps. If that kind of crap doesnt bother you go for it. Im a person that actually cares about how my car rides and I finally got sick of them and went back to stock. Coil overs are something I have not tried, but I can only imagine they would really firm up the ride which is something I dont want either. That and the fact that they arent cheap.

Hope this helps.

James

^you're just getting old, sir.

Acura's have always been "jarring" in their suspension tuning.

I agree I am getting older, but even if I was 19 years old it would annoy the crap out of me if my car drove like that over bumps. The jarring im talking about doesnt even come close to comparing to how it took bumps with the H&R Sport lowering springs. The Acura TL is a pretty firm riding car to begin with, but its not what im talking about. With lowering springs its as if the suspension is bottoming out (not sure if it really was), but thats what it felt like.
Im just being honest with the guy and giving my input from a person who is picky about shit. If he wants a car that can handle decent size bumps relatively comfortably then absolutely DO NOT get lowering springs on stock shocks. THey do not handle medium to large bumps well at all.

I think koni yellows with stock springs, set on the "lowered" position, and shocks on softest damping would be pretty comfortable. it'd maintain about the same amount of travel since the whole spring is being moved down, so ride quality shouldn't be compromised
