Has anyone done this? I'm thinking about doing these to my 18" rims. I'm going for matte black wheels on my BWP.

Does it last long and is it hard to clean?

Got a buddy who just did it. Turned out great. It is not something I would personally do, but it works when done properly .

I don't have pictures but I also know of a few AZ'ers that have dipped OEM wheels. Unfortunately I never saw their cars in daylight so I can't say how well it came out or not, but from what I saw at night time it looked good.

I did my stock 18"s for my winter wheels, it looked great and was quite durable (I used one can per wheel)........... But what a pain in the arse to clean!!!! Almost nothing would get them clean, even scrubbing with a wash mit. I unfortunately peeled it off after a month, but on the bright side it came off in all one piece nice and easy.
I think normal road dirt and rain ect will clean up ok but any thing gritty like heavier dirt, mud and similar tends to get into all the little crevices as the surface is rubbery and lightly textured.

plz dont use cheap spray can on your 40k car...

plasti-dip is hard to clean, hard to get off, and top if that makes your car look like some 12 year old went crazy with a can of spray paint.. i smh when i see someone on the streets with plastidip wheels or grill or etc..

Thanks. Just wanted to get a diff look that I can "reverse" at any time. Didn't want to pay $400-500 to get the wheels powdercoated either.

I think if your trying to get a general idea of what some black wheels will look like then try it. If its something you like then have it done the right way.

My brother just did this to his car and it seems ok though. He has been going back and forth for a while on if he wanted black wheels so testing out the look seems like a good idea.

I have dipped my wheels. I think its a fast easy way to change color of your rims and relatively cheap(under 80 bucks). As for cleaning if you use dipyourcar.com 's products like the dipwash and dipwasher they get clean and i have never had an issue. Ive had them on my car during and after a snow storm, and when i went to wash everything came off easily(with recommended products). Ive had them on for about 2 months. Sooo to me it was worth it and im happy. I even painted my lugs a pearl white with plasti-dip! Here are some pics.......

Gonzilla-

Looks good man. IMO looks better then some painted wheels or powder coat. I have used Plasti Dip for years on my grill's and emblems. It is easy to clean and very durable. I had it on the grill on my Lexus for three years without an issue or fade. I just did my tail lights and emblem on my TL. Here is a pic. After seeing your wheels I'm going to do my wife's Mini Cooper wheels with Plasti Dip. Did you use the plasti dip glossifier or is that just Plasti Dip? How many coats and how many cans did you use?

What plastidip did you use for your lights? Smoke/Gunmetal or Black? And how many coats? Did you take the lights off the body or just tape up the surrounding area?

Looks great! I've plastidipped entire cars before, but not specific areas. Worried of getting rouge paint particles in the air on the body. If it's a single layer/few splatter spots, the'll be a pain to take off.

Thanks. I used the normal black. I did about 4-5 coats. I taped around the lights and used a moving tarp to protect the inside of my trunk since I had my trunk open. The key to tape about an inch away from the tail light and to put on enough coats then when it is dry them you can easily peel off the the excess around the tail light without having to trim it with something sharp. I used newspaper and tape to cover most of the rear quarter panel and rear bumper.

Hater. I can do your wheels for you too. It would look much better then the white rims you have on there. GTFOH.

So I have a 3rd generation pearl white I just plati dipped my stock rims and looks way legit! I want to do the symbols in the back and the front but worried about overspray and getting it off without problems...
How many coats did you use and how long did you wait to peel it off?

AZNTL I used 1 can per wheel and only 1 can of glossifier. I did only 2 coats of the glossifier and about 9 of black on each wheel. And to potmilks to each their own, I would have never done this either but I saw it on a car and I figured why not give it a try since i was a little iffy on black wheels. Wheels will be powdercoated gloss black by end of summer. The corner lenses are actually tint film by headlightarmor.com as I did my fogs in blue as well

I used about 5 coats. I waited about 5 minutes between coats and used a a hair dryer from about 4 feet way on low to speed up the drying process since I did my garage and it's winter. I then let it sit about 1 hour before I peeled it off.

ive done my 19 oem advance wheels, it wasnt that hard. I took some newspaper and stuck it behind the wheel so that it would block the caliper and brake disc. you can also do this with garbage bags! use about 1 can per wheel and youre golden. I did my wheels with the rim on the car, but I still used the flash card technique. I believe that pastidip isnt that bad, a cheap way to change the look of your wheels !

Plasti-dip, or any other covering like that on the taillights would get you pulled over, at least here in Portland, faster than a meth head driving rollin lab around downtown.

hey Mitch s ive used plasti dip on my stockies for my 2008 TL and dont doooo it. Worst paint there is if you want to get something good then do it the right way sand off the paint with a tool or by hand, then prime it and use the paint color of choice and top it off with a clear coat that is what i have done in the past and i had no regrets.
