Question OEM Rotors or Aftermarket Slotted / Drilled Brake Rotors

So I have warped rotors, have already turned them once 2 years ago, time for a new set. I have a 2013 TL Base.

I take great care of this car and trying to keep it looking new so appearance of the rotors is important. My experiences on other vehicles have been that drilled rotors end up with hairline cracks which look like crap after a year or so. With the cheap standard generic replacements they end up rusting which also looks like crap. OEM are more expensive but the silver paint on my rotors (which are original) is still intact, they look great still. I've had them turned once already so this time I want to spend a little extra and start with a fresh set.

I'm kind of leaning toward Acura OEM replacements, can probably get them for $225 out the door from the local dealer as they usually can get pretty close to the online dealer prices such as Park or Bernardi if I ask the parts manager for a discount.

I've been looking at various other "performance" rotors online, some from Tire Rack and some from other sites. I see some slotted and drilled/slotted which are on-par with new OEM pricing. Just curious what you guys have been running and how they hold up, IE rusting issues or excessive pad wear.

Go Brembo blanks. Or heck even the duralast max line from AutoZone will more than suffice. I wouldn't bother with 'performance' ones if you're not planning on tracking or racing,

I see Duralast "Gold" at Autozone for $86.99 each, that's steep as hell for Duralast rotors for a sedan compared to other cars I've replaced them on. If its a $20-$25 difference per rotor I figure I might as well go OEM unless these are better, IE more cooling fins for example, hard to tell from the pics on their site and it looks like a special order item.

Which Brembo blanks? I searched through their catalog I could not find anything for TL. Link of something would be handy.
On other cars, I have good luck with centric cyro rotor.
I wish we had a page that would just list peoples results with brake parts and such. You know like EBC slotted rotors, Hawk pads, catagory for OEM design, sound note +, or durability +++ etc and easy table of other users results with brakes and other parts.
Ya that would be nice man if a mod would put up something like that...dang who is mod around these boards.
I am slumming on the boards tonight

Racingbrake slotted rotors for the front + ET300/500 pads and you'll be set. I've put over 100K on my MDX and 3G TL with racing brake rotors with Acura pads and have loved it. No more warped rotors that have to be replaced or turned, as in I've put a lot of miles on the rotors and gone through 2-3 sets of pads and they have barely worn from what they were originally. That by itself speaks volumes about their metallurgy.

It's $329 + Shipping from Mr. Heeltoe (Heeltoe automotive) but if you give him a call and mention acurazine too you'll be able to get a nice discount on them!

I've got them in my wish list for the 4G TL and will probably have them put on early next year!

Brake options are really based on driving patterns. Here are some options.

I've been running the RB slotted with the ET500s on my 3G and couldn't be happier! I'm at ~166k miles now and installed around 30k miles in 2008. I still running with the same rotors but did replace the pads early 2013.

I installed slotted rotors from Adams and they've been great. I opted for the higher carbon iron. Even after 30,000 miles they still look fairly new. The hub is coated with black zinc so no rust so far.

I recently got powerslot rotors and I’m not real happy with how they are holding up to salt. They saw about a month of northern MI salt and rusted quite a bit. I have hart rotors from eBay on another vehicle and they have seen 2 full winters and are holding up to corrosion better. If I bought another set right now I would go with the hart rotors. The hart rotors are cross drilled and I have no oppinion one way or the other on that. If money is no object I’d say get DBA rotors.

Why are you worried about rust on rotors? that's going to happen to any non-ceramic rotor. It shouldn't be an issue at all, as long as it's surface rust and can be removed w/ a drive around the block...

I couldn't find Brembo blanks for the 4G. I went with Duralast Gold. They've worked well so far.

I think he's referring to the rotor hats rusting, not the braking surfaces.

Ah. I have a Centric slotted setup and it has a black coating on the "hat" so it's had no problems with rust there, just on the surface. So far so good.
