Newbie 2012 TL SH-AWD Advance 20" tire help needed

Hello to all...

Newbie here to the Acurazine community, always owned Hondas but bought the girlfriend an 05 TL then fell in love so I am picking up a 2012 AWD Advance on Saturday so here goes.

Normally I stuff as much tire under my car as possible to fill the horrid gap that HMC seems to engineer into all of their vehicles. The car is coming with 19's (that I don't much care for) that I will run in the winter with snows BUT I want to put 20's on it and want to know what I can get away with as far as tire size.

From what I see I can put a 245/40/20 on without any rubbing or issues is this true and or can I go bigger?

I'm 52 and don't want to sacrifice the ride (yes I know then don't go 20's) but I don't want to lower the car and just want to fill out the wheel wells and have a bit of sidewall.

All info will be helpful and appreciated. I will post more of the car and such down the road as it's scheduled for tint on Tuesday and would like to have the new wheels sometime the following week. Also debating on the body kit.

Thanks again to all in advance and yes I did a search.

If you go up in sidewall size without going wider - your speedometer is going to be off by quite a bit.

For example
245/35-20 (what I have and close to oem)
vs
245/40-20 - Speedo off by 3.6%
245/45-20 - Speedo off by 7.2%

The only way to really kill the wheelgap is to lower with springs or coilovers.

I don't think anyone here has done a larger wheel size to accommodate for the gap as they didn't want to screw their speedometer.

I really don't care about screwing up the speedo as l just compensate by setting my cruise slower on the highway and normal city driving speeds the error will not really be noticed.

I'm just trying to fill the gap without a drop. Possibly if they had an OEM drop (like my accord coupe) I might do it but I'm not going to just throw spring on and call it a day and coilovers are not real practical or cost effective.

So with the above being said, how big can I go without rubbing?

I'm thinking the 245/40/20 seems to be the best blend of sidewall and looks without going 4x4

I would agree with ^. I also just put on 20's 245/35/20 with a +38 offset and have no rubbing and i think it looks good

255/35R20 will also work depending on wheel offset. Speedo will be off by 1.156%.

Yes I know the 245/35/20 is the reccomendend tire fitment, I am asking if anyone else has shoved more rubber up under there?

I don't care about speedo being a few MPH off at 60 (actual 58.3) not a big enough difference for me to worry about.

I shoved 20's under my Accord coupe and both of my Mini's with no issues and larger than they reccomended, currently I'm rolling on RDX 19's on my CR-V with about three sizes too big of tires with no rubbing issues, speedo is about 4 MPH off at 65 so I set my cruise at 63 and call it a day.

I just don't like all the gap and I'm way past the drop and loss of ride quality with a suspension drop or coilovers. With that being said, I dropped the Accord w/ HFP kit and it rode better AFTER the drop?

Thanks again for all your help, I'm rolling out on Saturday to pick it up... I'm just torn on a few things and this is one, the other is a body kit but that is more personal taste than issues.

Thanks to all...

.....
No. Hardly any forum member in here buy tires with thicker sidewalls just to fill up the wheel gaps.

If you go to a reputable wheel/tire dealer like Discount Tire they will test fit wheel and tire combinations for you and see what works and looks good in your opinion

I agree with everyone else. The best way to get rid of the gap is to lower the car. You can go with something like Tein H.tech (1.2 in drop) or even the H&R (1in drop) You gonna lose some ride quality going to 20 any ways so might as well lower it

I understand what the OP is asking. I had a 3.5 altima (lowered with springs and struts) and the wheel gap was still there so I went up bigger on the sidewalls. I have to say rubberband "look" nice on big wheels but bigger side walls are practical. The guy is of a older age and want this car to look good, that's all. I say follow the advice of one of the other users and test fit tires from a shop. If they don't then take it somewhere else.

OLDER AGE ???? WOW I'm going back to the Accord boards with the kids! I LOVE to slam my cars but I want this one to ride with a little luxury also that's sort of why I went with the TL.

Just an example my MINI front one was on coilovers and 20's

Here is my Accord w/HFP suspension and OVERSIZED 20's I went up one sidewall profile to fill the gap and not kill the ride

I think I hit the enter key and it posted the above reply too quickly but you get the point, fill the gap I'm not trying to make it look like this:

I knew what I was doing when I shoved these things under my CR-V, RDX 19's with as big of tire I could put on without rubbing... 59 is the new 65MPH so I don't care much about my speedo

I guess I'm just going to have to stop by a big tire shop and start putting them on to see how things look. I think an Enkei Lusso blk/silver is going to be the one. I'm sure I will post more here... as you can see, I do love my cars and do like to make them look different than the rest.

I pick up the car on Saturday 5/12 and tint is scheduled for Tuesday, rear window lip already ordered from eBay, LED lights also... too man toys

OLDER Dude... LMAO

Went with the 19's, couldn't do the 20's and lose that much of a ride. Ended up with the diamond cut OEM w/245/45/19 P Zero Nero tires. Fills the gap a bit more than the 245/40/19s and should ride a bit better.

Thanks to all for the help

pictures will be soon as the car hasn't even hit my driveway yet... got the gf a 10 TSX but I'm stuck driving her old Nissan right now.

I'm deciding on the body kit and such so I will wait until the windows are tinted, wheels/tires on and body kit or not until I post up.
