MDX advance wheels with 255/40 tire

Hey guys, I just bought MDX advance wheels 19 x 8.5. The oem spec on tirerack states it fits 255/50 but since I'm putting it on my TL. I was looking into putting 255/40 general g-max. So my question is

1. Am I going to get some rubbing issues with the slightly wider tires/wheels? (My car is lowered with H-techs)

2. Should I go with 255/40 or 255/45 ? (NJ potholes suck)

I would think that the offset of the wheel would have somthing to do with whether or not you will have a rubbing issue. However, I suspect that the factory offset is pretty mild. With that being said, my guess is that you will not have an issue running 255/40R19's. I say that based on the fact that I am running aftermarket 19x8.5 wheels with a 40mm offset (OEM is 55mm) with 255/40R19 Conti DW's. And although I am not lowered it looks like I wouldn't have an issue if I were.

Again, do NOT put a 255/45/19 tire on the TL. 45 is the WRONG series tire for a 19" wheel on the 4G TL.

Not only will it look like a monster truck but it might not even fit into the fender wells, and will completely screw up your speedometer reading.

A 40 series tire is the proper size for a 19" wheel on your car.

Here's a great site for you to visualize everything:

For some reason it won't let me post the pics on my iPad. Dimensions are too big or something.

Can't wait to see they ended up looking on your car! Upload the images to imgur.com first and then post the links here.

^^ not to circle jerk but definitely one of the best OEM wheel options for the TL. Really happy with the result on your car

I'm pretty sure the wheels weight almost the same as the TL advance wheel "28 lbs." and the tires are general gmax. I have gmax on my m3 and they are great tires for the money.

The MDX Advance 19" OEM wheel weighs in at 28.8lb - very close to the 19" TL Advance wheel (near 28lb +- .5lb)

The wheel fitment really reminds me of the G37 coupe for some reason. Do you have any rubbing with that setup? I love that offset/tire width combo, it looks nice and flush with the fenders, the advance wheels should've had the same offset IMO.

No rubbing issues whatsoever. I live in north jersey with tons of potholes and rough roads and I haven't had any issues.

Do you not monitor your gas mileage using your MID? You should just be able to check there and see if you're getting worse mileage assuming you were paying attention to it prior to your wheel/tire install.

nice wheel choice. i was looking for the zdx 20s but now im leaning towards these. sorry in advance if in the near future i copy your setup but take it as a compliment cause it looks good. the only problem is that the Canadian dealers are idiots and never do wheel upgrades. i could never find some locally. i had to get my mdx techs for my odyssey from the states.

Looks very good OP, well done.

On a side note, where is everybody buying these awesome looking OEM wheels? I can't find anything period in central Florida for late model OEM wheels without having to bend over at the dealership.

Digging up an old thread. These wheels really look great on the TL. How does the steering wheel feel? Can you tell any difference? I am asking because based on this website, the difference in offset will create positive scrub radius which can potentially impact handling, but I am not sure whether an average driver like myself can tell.

If you are still around, please let me know. Thanks!
