M6 wheels/tire sizes...

Hello all,

This is one of my first posts here at Acurazine. I have a WDP '09 TL and I know there have been many posts regarding these wheels. I found a set on EBay but the wheels are staggered (20" BY 8.5 front & 20" BY 9.5 rear) I'm wondering if there would be any rubbing issues or fitment issues with this set.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/20-BM...Q5fAccessories

I am also curious of what the tire size is recommended for this wheel size as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I won't be lowering my car either, I'm hoping the 20" will fill enough of the gap without looking terrible. I did see a pic of an '09 black TL with these same wheels and I liked how it looked. It never said if the car was lowered or not though.

255 rear and 245 front on 35 series

make sure you get your tpms from your stock wheels.. but i suggest to buy it because it cost about the same to remove it off your tire

Search for the subject as there have been a couple posts about this. 20" wheels on the 4G TL are the best looking option but are detrimental to the handling of the vehicle. The best wheel option for the 4 G TL is a set of BBS RGR in 18x9 (less than 20lbs) with a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports 245/45/18. The 20's will add significant un-sprung weight to the 4 corners and that slim sidewall will not provide the traction a taller sidewall offers. The car would look hot with those replicas, but will be slower.

Those wheels are $900 a peice.....way out of my range of what I'm willing to pay. I didn't realize that the 20's would make that much of a difference regarding the handling though. Thanks for the input

If you get some nice and not to heavy customize 20" wheels your handling will be fine. Hell, they are lambo and porsche that has 25 series tires and handles well. You can run 35 series tires on your 20" wheels and your handling will be fine. Just going with 19" wheels does not make your car handles better than people with 20's. Also, for good handling on the 4G use the same size tire all around.

When I was first looking at the M6 wheels, I didn't realize they were staggered. I thought some just did that because they wanted to have it set up as such.
Ideally, I would like to get 19 or 20" M6 wheels all around and not have to stagger them....if that's possible...

^ If you don't want to run stagger then you should be able to get the M6 wheels in 20x8.5 offset 35 all around and then run tire size 245 35 20. That setup will fit without rubbing and no fender rolling needed.

Ya, um, I like your car FYAH, but you are dead wrong. I've been researching tire specs for over 20 years. Call it an obsession if you will. Data Doesn't Lie. You may think that your TL handles better, and it may feel tight going around the block on your drive to work. In reality the added weight and rotational mass of that wheel makes it slower.
A lighter, narrower 18" package is more responsive and just quicker. Acceleration is faster, transitions are faster, steering responce is better and threshold braking will be improved.

^ i agree an 18inch lightweight wheel package and 20inch with the same lightweight wheel package the 18inch will be more responsive and quick...I got that.

But putting some nice customize 20inch wheels on the 4G does not destroy the car handling capabilities. With 20inch wheels if done right, the car handling is still great.

I think the 20" M6 wheels look great. I just don't want to screw anything up as far as handling is concerned. Or mess anything else up on the car for that matter...

honestly.. if your just daily driving the damn car just do it..

if your tracking or racing (which i dont know why you would do both on the tl anyways) then stick with 19's

im all about form over function. our cars are not meant to be tracked its just looks good and has awd system.

luxury cars deserve luxury parts.

do you honestly care how fast you can go on a turn? i certianly dont.. i rather the car look good on the streets than to look like i can race.

as long as you get the right camber, and suspension you will be fine.

you have to sacrifice to gain something... in this case, you will loose the ability to ride smooth

lol point taken. It's just a daily driver and I could care less about how fast I can go in a turn. I just want it to look good and that's it. I'm just looking for a set of wheels that I don't have to play with the suspension set up, camber or anything of the sort. I'm looking on EBay at a set of 19x8 M6 replica wheels. From what I understand these should just be able to be put on without adjusting a thing.

Got it. For looks the 20" really is the best option (and the M-6 replicas are smokin' hot). And you are correct, the overall handling is not going to suffer that much. The car is such a dream to drive (and has ample horsepower), that you probably would never notice the difference in acceleration or braking.
You would notice a huge difference on a car like a Miata if you bumped up to 19x8" from the stock 17". It might cost you a whole second on the track.

yeah that sounds perfect. I can't seem to find 20X8.5 on EBay anywhere. All I can find are ones being sold as 20X8.5 front and 20X9.5 rear with an offset of 35

saved these pics i found of a TL with these wheels, sorry i don't have any information on them though:

M6 wheels/tire sizes...-ef1ll.jpg

They definitely compliment the car really well. I think the person who posted them mentioned these wouldn't clear the brakes on an SH-AWD.
