I am planing on upgrading my current rims but I want to know what are the biggest 18" tire I can put on.

The objective is that i want to be able to protect them rim a little.

You should search "Tires, Wheels & Suspension" for more information. Others have squeezed large tires and staggered width & offsets under the 4G TL (although I don’t recommend it).

same question here, looking at a 265/40/18 to put on stock AWD rims.

Pete2010 07-31-2011 09:32 AM

I think the stock rims are only 8" wide, I think you'd need 9.5-10in wide rims to fit a 265/40/18. On my 8.5" wide rims I've got 245/35-20's and there is no stretch at all.

Good luck, i'd be curious to see what that looks like when you do it.

I still do t know what's the biggest size but I ended up getting 245/45 18" and they fit just fine.

Pete2010 07-31-2011 11:37 AM

Yup that's the OEM size. What tire did you end up getting?

This is a good calculator.

What tires did you get ? Did you get the ones with rim protector ?

I ended up with vredestiens they are the best tires in the world. I have the ultrac sessantas. They are UHP summer tires. Look them up and you will see. I had them in my old TL-S and they are smooth, quiet, durable and go threw large puddles of still water like a hot knife in butter.

yup, the michelins I was looking at show a Rim Width Range between 9 and 10.5" actual rim width being 9.5". How much can I (safely) go over that 8" if any? That's really my only option tire everything else is much smaller in diameter.

For safety sake, always follow the manufacturer's rim-width recommendations for your chosen tires.
