Put some wooden planks on the curb of your driveway. It should help

lol... the civ needs planks to use normal height shop jacks. i need low profile racing style jacks or the jack wont fit under the car.

i dont think i'll lower the TL. one slammed car is enough. besides, the TL gets driving by my bro... who seems to like hitting potholes.... and my mom... who lead foots it out of the driveway LOL. im also saving up in hopes of getting an s2k. so i need to restrain from modding the TL too much...

So after some back and forth he agrees on 230 plus tax.

I ask how much for install....299.95....again after some back and forth we agree on 230 plus tax.

The dealer did a excellent job on the body kit install. Lynnwood is by far the most professional dealer I have been too. They do fantastic work and have great prices.

Also no alignment and the car drives pure and straight.

Today was a good day...body kit and car lowered.

Needless to say the drive back from seattle to vancouver was a bit faster and way more fun.

Eman2012 is right...the car handles much better and you do not sacrifice too much in terms of ride quality.

I must thank all the guys/girls on this forum. A wealth of knowledge and if it wasn't for you people I would be rolling in a stock TL.

Up next..hopefully Jpipe and excelerate exhaust.
so did you end up installing springs? No camber kit?

That's right just h&r springs no camber kit yet.

Will get an alignment in a couple of weeks and go from there.

But like how blackura_ny says he has been lowered for a long time with just springs and his camber and alignment is ok. I think he is riding like -1.0 degrees when stock camber is -0.5 (I think)

I din't get (nor do I beleive I need) a camber kit. I will go back in a couple of weeks to have the alignment checked. I called H&R prior to installation, they insisted that their spring do not sag, therefore eliminating a realignement after install and alignment. We shall see. Hey audi_to_TL, post some pictures of your ride with the body kit, would love to see. That's my next investment.

I was planning on it this weekend but it snowed last night. As soon as we get some clear weather I will post some pics.

i think what you were told by h&r and what you believe is incorrect.

anytime you change the dynamics of the suspension, you have to get an alignment.

and if you lower your vehicle, your wheels will tuck, thus camber.

Thanks potmilkz, they did the alignment when the springs were installed, I was referring to having to realign after the springs settle. The H&R guy told me that their springs are designed not to settle. As far as the camber, I again went on the adsvise of the H&R guy who told me that I did not require a camber kit for the springs. Anyone with H&R springs that can help would be appreciated.

300 seems high for installation. But then again, it's not like a civic.

It's labor intensive for the TL, because it need to remove the rear seatback in order to get access to the rear shocks.

I ordered tein stech springs for my FWD. Installed them all yesterday but i noticed the right rear shock absorber was on its way out so I pick up a new one tomorrow to complete the install. will post pics later this week. I noticed on my car the rear shock absorbers were two differnt torque settings from the factory. My right rear was well over 20 more ft lb's, which is why i believe it lived a short life, not likely but could contribute to shorter life.

I went with tein h-tech springs because I felt like the s-techs lowered too much. How much did it lower your car?

When I had it off jacks before i decided to order a new shock it was 1.5 in. it still has jack stand under the rear since i'm waiting for a new shock absorber tomorrow.

Here's a pic of the tein stech springs with a 1.5 drop in front rear i believe is 1.43. It's from the Tein website.

Yea but all the other that say they don't need it i would say bullshit i need it big time. Before i had a 09 TL base and it was not sh-awd and when i lower it yes you don't a camber because it was only front wheel drive but i trade it in and got me a infiniti g37s coupe then got rear ended after freaking months and i trade it in my whole rear end did not look right and went back to acura and trade it back in and got me a 2012 TL SH-AWD and i use the same spring that i use on my 09 TL NON SH-AWD. So after i install in on my 2012 TL SH-AWD and i really notice that i really need a camber on the rear becuase it was sitting in ALOT but on the NON SH-AWD i didn't notice i need it. So i just speaking from what I had to do with my 2012 TL SH-AWD but it is up to you buddy just drop it and see like i did and then order the camber if you need but with SH-AWD you need to set it back to factory setting or close to it for the handling but if you don't care and have the money for tire by all mean do what you got it do.

^ please use more punctuation. That was a difficult read lol.

You know you can adjust alignment w/o a camber kit right? You just won't be able to adjust as much. Unless you do a super big drop, you usually won't need camber kits. Unless camber kits are $50 for all 4 corners, which they're NOT... it's prob not a bad choice to install first, and then go for alignment to see if they can get it aligned w/o one.

The camber kits are not "required", but I got on anyway, just to be safe. When my springs were installed, it needed a camber kit. They couldn't be adjusted enough with the alignment to get it into spec.

Agree. Camber kit is only required if alignment is too far off after a drop and can't be adjusted back to the factory specs.

I actually found the springs for $206 on Tire Rack. $400-450 is just for the installation. I'll check with my dealer, but based on what they normally charge for labor, I assume it would be close to my other quotes. You must be one heck of a negotiator!

Wow! Northern VA sucks for service. I have a set of H&R springs (also from Tire Rack), and so far have gotten an install + alignment quote from the dealer for $890, and another estimate from a service shop for $975. This doesn't include the parts, mind you. A third shop said they wouldn't even do the work.

I wish I had the time, tools and know-how to do this myself. Looks like I may just sell the springs and say forget it!

(sorry for the 10 week bump.)

First off, I wanna say thanks for all the info in this thread! This thread alone has been so informational for me.

Now, I have a tech '09 and am thinking about the h&r's over the tein simply cause I don't wanna break the bank just yet. You guys speak of the h&r's like it's a cant miss. I tried searching for them in tire rack but did not find. I live in South FL and would like to know if there is any place here, or online where I can get them for a decent price.

Thanks everyone!

That is crazy install + alignment shouldn't cost more than 300-400 dollars. Those prices are outrageous!!!!

I got mine from XLR8 (and he installed although it's been a cpl years so I forget the price - around $300-350 if i recall)

Since I got my XLR8 ISC Coilovers today I will probably put my H&R Springs in the blackmarket in a couple weeks.

Its funny how most people call it "outrageous" but you have to remember not everyone has the same prices. I live in Canada and I will pay you $1000 if you can find a local shop where I live to do a spring/coilover install for less then $300 (not including alignment). I paid little over $450 +alignment for my TEIN S-Tech springs to be installed.

So when I heard people quoting prices like $150 for springs/coilovers installs & $70-80 for a alignment,(does not include someone doing it privately in their driveway, a reputable mechanic shop) I thought you American guys were all crazy.

Agree.

Everything in Canada is costing so much more than the same selling in the US.

No wonder Canadians are willing to wait in hours-long lineups just to cross the borders for cheaper US goods.
