FALKEN 452 Review

So after one and a half season of running the Falken 452s on my 2010 SH-AWD with 20" rims, I decided to share my experience with people here.

Recommended? No

I don't think these tires are a good fit for the SH-AWD. I find them to lack grip and also quite loud. On my old 2006 TL, I had General Exclaim UHPs and was very happy with them. I think I should have paid a bit more to get the same for the new one.

There are several instances on a hot summer day where the ground is very dry that the tires are supposed to grip. However, even at lower speeds, these tires lose grip and I have managed on some occasions to do a 4 wheel drift on a turn. Quite a feat. Thank goodness for the AWD system that it's able to compensate and recover quickly.

But that is not my main beef. The main issue I have with these tires is that they are LOUD! I'm thinking of getting rid of these after 2 summers and paying more for a better set of tires.

I picked them up since a lot of people here had them but I guess it was still too early to tell if they were any good or not. I got them because they were quite cheap. I guess that was my mistake.

So if anyone is thinking of getting the Falken 452s, my suggestion would be to pay a bit more for something better.

I recently dumped my set due to some recent repairs from screws and a Gerber knife blade a couple of weeks ago. The noise became really unbearable with the 19" version. I used to have a set of 18's with my old A-Spec wheels and they behaved much better. I have switched to 19" Hankook Ventus V12 EVO's and they have been super quiet so far. Almost too quiet!

With the hot weather it seems to be much louder now too. I'm definitely thinking of replacing them next year!!

I have it on my TL because it was cheap so I brought it but yes it is unbearable. Kind of loud especially when I am running 20s.

I have been researching tires... and just about the best tire you can buy these days, its the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. Those are my next rubbers!

Ironically, the general exclaims were cheaper than the 452's for me. I have no complaints...I don't lose grip at all...we or dry and they dont' seem loud to me. Only problem I see is they seem to wear quickly...and the sidewall is very thick so it rubbed a little initially.

Go for the Michelin Super Sport which is the latest design to supersede the PS2. It's about the same price as the PS2, but is one generation ahead.

I've tried several different manufactures over the years: Kuhmo, Nitto, Michelin, BFG, and Falken's. I use to buy the Falken’s because they were cheap and on sport compact cars I wasn't really worried about road noise and handling was limited on the FWD platforms i had been driving. I was never impressed with Falken's offerings. They always seemed to last half as long as they were supposed to. I decided to try a set of Hankook V12's on the TL when I upgraded to 20's. Priced at $140 a set they were very affordable and I have been VERY impressed in the handling and road noise. They are hands down the best tire in that price point and can't recommend them enough.

I had Hankook K104s on my S2000. Can't beat the price, and plenty sticky. Also put them on my 6 speed CL, and found them to be a great balance and have enough wet/winter traction to be year round usable.

Falkens are the WORST. I was going to get those wrapped around the legends when I first bought them but after reading some reviews on the 452's I didn't think twice and bought some UHPAS Yoko's
