Contintental Control Contact Sport AS
Has anyone heard anything about these tires? I can't find anything info on the internet on the these tires. Tirerack.com doesn't have any reviews on them either.
I *might* be swapping out my A/S 3s due to its poor snow traction, and said tires are what Discount Tires is offering me (or the DSWs, which I'm afraid to try due to reports of blown tires from its soft sidewalls). Salesguy at Discount Tires says the new Control Contact Sport AS do not have the soft sidewall issue anymore, and he recommends these over the DSW.

Info at Discount tire says it is an exclusive model just for them. I couldn't even find anything on Continental's web site. I would be leery, sounds like you would be the guinea pig on this one.

Yup, I got the A/S 3s a few months ago. I'm not very happy with its overall winter performance (dry and rain performance is great though). After the recent super light snow (barely 0.5-1") snow fall, I felt its snow/winter traction is subpar given Michelin's all-season promise and advertisement of it being a "high performance all season tire", and esp since the A/S 3s are a new model.

I love the Conti DWS, they're the best A/S tire I've tried that perform well in all seasons. The only complaints I have are that they're difficult to shine & I've heard, but haven't experienced that blowouts due to soft side walls is common. I had and suggest keeping the tire pressure a bit higher, 35, 36, 37 cold.
I'm lowered and only drive fast on roads I know. I imagine anyone driving like an A-hole on unfamiliar roads is likely to get a blowout if they hit a road hazard regardless of the tire.

Only real complaint I had with my DWS's is that they appeared to be nail magnets ... that, plus the fact that just before I acquired my S5 I had to replace one of the tires which just wouldn't hold air anymore ... and the load ratings had increased (nobody had any DWS's with the previous load ratings). I wonder if this might have helped with the softer sidewalls?

Didn't know the load ratings have increased, if so then the side walls are harder. Also I forgot to mention that I always get the highest speed rating tires which have the hardest sidewalls. I'm guessing people that complained of frequent blowouts got lower speed rated ones.

Tires with a higher speed rating, always have harder sidewalls, than the same tires with lower speed ratings.
Thus, an additional benefit of higher speed rated tires is that the harder sidewalls allow much better cornering performance.

I'm not going to check cartalk since so many new threads are created daily there, but I searched a few pages of 4G tire section and came across these threads. Mostly the usual suspects are commenting, but you get fresh faces commenting as well on the DWS.

My dad had them on his Genesis Sedan Conti DWS). He Loved them. They were on national back order when he had to get new tires and couldnt go back to them but he really wanted them. He got 60 some k miles out of them and never had an issue.

I know that it does better in the rain and dry but I was waiting for a proper review in snow. So far the DWS has been great. Under aggressive driving however, the tread wear is not great and the side walls are soft so the car doesn't feel as planted when it actually is. Haven't been able to fishtail the car. The ride quality is exceptional though. Soaks up the slightly rough roads of Utah really really well.

One notorious member who got banned is Vivimike. That's exactly why this 4G TL forum has been so peaceful for the past month without his obnoxious inputs.
