All season tire siping

All season tire siping
Here in Northern Idaho we get our fair share of winter weather - the snow and ice type. I'm not going to drive the TL when the weather is bad, I have an SUV for that mess. But I am thinking of getting my all season tires siped just for an added traction bonus when I am driving it in the winter. I do realize that siped A/S tires are NOT a substitute for a good set of snow tires. Have any of you siped your all season tires? Think Acura would have a problem with it, perhaps with tire warranty?

Acura might not have a problem, but your tire warranty could suffer. I've read pros and cons about siping - my take is that if you have moderately worn tires that didn't have good siping in the 1st place, you could get a little extra traction in wet and snow, but any time you add siping, you are making a tire more squirmy in normal driving conditions. It's also said to add tire noise. Try a Google on tire siping and decide for yourself.

sorry, i'm of no help as I live in a region where summer tires are okay all . But thanks, I learned something new today. I thought you misspelled slipping or shipping...

Thanks for providing the link to a good definition of siping. I have to remember that some of you are lucky enough to live in an environment where snow and ice is not much of a concern, if at all.
