2012 TL Shawd Elite riding rough... best summer tire setup?
Hey everyone.
Ive had my 2012 TL elite for about 2 weeks now and absolutely love it. Looking for some advice on a summer tire setup when the time comes to switch these all seasons.

I love these 19” elite wheels, gives the car a more sporty/aggressive look, however they do ride rough and I feel every bump on a decently paved road. This is the first 4G I’ve driven so not sure how it compares to a 17/18” setup.I definitely want to keep this wheel set up, but would also like the ride to be a bit more ‘smooth’. For anyone that knows.. would changing to a good 19inch summer tire in the spring make a difference? (if so could you recommend the ‘smoothest’)... currently on Goodyear eagle all seasons 240/45/19.
thanks!!

The inconvenient truth
I would think that the tires and 19 inch rims have a lot to do with it and changing to different tires and/or smaller rims should help.
But I would like to mention that when i switched to the TEIN coilovers it made me realize just how stiff the stock suspension is. Great for cornering but you feel most every bump.

I have a ‘13 Elite and am using 18’s for the winter. It rides sooo much better on the 18’s, even on winter tires.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think you have 245/40/19 tires currently. I believe that if you went to summer tires, the handling would get better but the ride would be even more harsh.

Maybe take a look at the new Pirelli PZero All Season Plus? Supposed to be a great improvement over the last generation of AS tires.

Hey Marco,Yes you are correct they are actually 245/40/19 all seasons. So summers would ride even rougher?? I thought it would be the opposite.I bet the 18s ride smoother but I really love the 19 Elite rims and don't want to change them, any suggestions??

As a general rule, summer tires ride harder than all-season tires. That said, I'm quite sure (but not absolutely certain) the "stiffest" all-season tires will ride rougher than the "softest" summer tires. In the end, down-grading to the 18" size will do more to improve your ride than any tire change in the 19" range.

You can increase the tire size to 255 40 r19 and/or go with a grand touring tire. Ya it sightly out of specs, tire rack will say it is ok. Plus I ran them for 4 years with no problems and I drive hard corners and such.
