Front Passenger Side Bolster tore. Before/After pics Included

Hey all,

So I was looking around today while cleaning and I noticed a tear in my passenger side bolster. It def wasn't there last week, so sometime during this week it happened. I was surprised to find how thin and frail the leather actually is for this section of the seat. I contacted a leather repair shop near my area and the guy there said it was a quick fix, it won't look OEM cause the tear was by the stitching. But he was able to glue and dye the leather/repair surface pretty decently. I can't complain. The whole process took about 10 minutes. He put some sort of backing into the cut, lathered some leather bonding glue, let it get tacky, glued together the tear and then did a quick fill and paint. Color looks pretty good. Again, not OEM, by any sense but the rip is gone, and it's not gonna rip more.

All in all, it cost me 15 dollars inc tax and about 10-15 minutes.

That sucks. Yeah that's an odd place for that to happen. I'd think that would be more likely to happen on the outside bolster where people slide across it when getting in. Doesn't seem to be a wear point where yours is.

Yeah, exactly. I have no idea how that tear got there. I don't usually have passengers, aside from my GF, and I saw her before I noticed the tear. Either way, I'm glad it's not too big of a tear and that it's pretty easily fixed.

Is that actually leather? Typically "leather" seats means that the seating surfaces are leather, but side bolsters are, more often than not, some version of "pleather". I assumed our seats were the same.

I dunno, It looks like pleather, I didn't ask the guy what it was, but it definitely wasn't thick like leather should be. And even when you touch it it doesn't feel thick either.

My understanding is that only the perforated area is actual leather.

Perhaps they're talking about the driver?

The whole cabin's seating surface (the part that holds your butt and back) do feel different and thicker than the sides or back of the seats. Even the headrest feels thin like the side bolster.
