F-009: Air Leak/Highway Noise - Drivers Side

Has anyone else experienced this? It seems like it is coming from either the top or bottom of the drivers side window by the B-pillar. You can hear air/noise coming in (but can not feel it) at highway speeds.

I really noticed it when I went to the brushless car wash and the dryer came on - it was really loud next to my ear at the B-pillar.

I looked and it appears that the drivers side door is not completely flush with the rest of the body (it sticks out ever so slightly from being flush with the drivers side rear door) - and it appears there also may be a small gap in the rubber seal at the top of the door.

I thought it might be a door alignment issue, but the passenger side door looks exactly the same way - making me wonder if it's a design flaw and if all TLs are like this.

I have not experienced anything similar with my old RDX. (I bought this 09 TL as a CPO last week so am just starting to notice things).

Thoughts?

CK-

Also in STL - congrats on the TL purchase.

I've actually been struck (as have others who've ridden in my car) by how quiet it is, especially at highway speeds.

You might need to have the seals lubed with the special Honda grease. You're under full warranty - I'd ask the dealer to give it a look. Maybe you can take a drive with a service advisor.

Good luck and enjoy the car.

JM - can you tell me if your front doors are 100% flush with the rear doors/B-pillar? That's where I am thinking the issue might be - it looks like the edge of each front door sticks out slightly from the B-pillar on each side. It's almost as though it's too much rubber seal that's pushing it out slightly.

We'll get it taken care of eventually - the service department at my dealer has always been great - this is my 4th Acura (RSX/TSX/RDX, now TL), but it is the first one that I have had a strange issue like this with.

For now my fix is to just turn up the radio.

I'll check it when I get home this evening, but I don't recall seeing that the doors aren't flush. I'll let you know.

I've had good experience at Mungenast's dealership. Is that who you deal with?

I bought my first two from Mungenast but when the time came for the third, I got a bad taste in my mouth, so I have been with Leta ever since.

Mine is not 100% flush either but I don't have any air leakage or noise problem from the windows.

check the rubber bumper on the bottom corner of the driver door. you can adjust it in or out to help make the door close tight. it may be too far out and the door is not closing all the way.

I should clarify, because I took a closer look when I got in the car on my way home tonight - the bottom and sides of the door itself are flush (the sheet metal portion). It's the black plastic-ish part around the window where it meets the B-pillar that is not flush.

Since it is flush at the bottom and sides, do you think the rubber stopper at the bottom would have any effect?

not sure - but you can always make a mark on the bumper and try turning it in and out and then open and close the door to see any changes. if nothing then turn it back to where you marked it. I did this with all of the doors to help line up the sheet metal and to also listen for a nice tight sound when the doors were closed. Also did this on the hood and trunk. The hood was not flush with the fenders so I adjusted the bumpers under the hood until I had nice flush panels.

CK- Checked mine this evening and they're absolutely flush on both sides.

I'd let the dealer resolve it. Sounds like maybe some weatherstripping work is called for.

Good luck.

Just an update - took the TL in this Saturday to have the doors looked at. It was also good timing because the day before I got a "Check Airbag System" message twice.

They replaced some occupant sensor in the passenger seat that was throwing the airbag code/message.

As for the doors, the tech that worked on it came out to talk to me when I picked it up and said "I don't know who installed these doors but they must have been drunk - we have never seen that much of a gap before!"

Bottom line - the doors are now flush and the cabin is quiet as can be!

gonna bump this thread since i'm having a similar problem (though being it's 2:30 AM i cant go check right now to see how flush things are though from a rough glance seems fine). already had weather stripping/door seal replaced under warranty and didn't resolve it. this "gap" that was there that was "huge"....how was that fixed? adjusting the door latch? tia
