Clunky rear suspension
I have seen a number of threads that reference clunking or thumping noises coming from the rear suspension. Some users have had the issue fixed with a strut replacement. Anyone who has had the issue, please say so, and if it has been fixed, post the repair. I just want to gauge how wide spread the issue is.

Car is at the dealer now. I took a tech for a ride and he said the noise is normal. Maybe I am just paranoid because the loaner FWD TL makes the same noise lol.

Im interested in some info on a potential fix as well. My '09 is still under Certified Warranty, and am looking to get this addressed soon. Ive noticed the noise since I got the car in July. Sometimes it seems to be louder than others. Either way, and even considering the suspension design, I think it's too excessive.

Saw that bulletin earlier, but the symptoms dont quite exactly match my issue. This is more of a "thud" you could say, right from the suspension. In my case, I swear it's better with people in the back seat. Mine goes in tonight; I'll post what they find, if anything, if anyones interested. I have a feeling Ill get the "its normal" thing though. Suspension noise with this design is somewhat normal, but not to this extent. Between the front ball joint noise and this rear noise, on some days this thing drives like it's got 200k miles on it. Not thrilled.

Mines at the dealer now, and this is one of the issues im having them look at. Im awaiting the "cant find anything wrong" phone call. But, i can definitely say that the 2013 TL FWD im driving as a loaner does the same exact thing, if not worse. And this car has 140 miles on it. So if they pull the "its normal" thing, I'll unfortunately have to somewhat believe it. Unfortunately.

I had my new 2012 TL w/30miles and now it got 5400miles. It was much quieter but now the Clunking noise is getting louder and only the right rear suspension make that Clunking noises. I've confirmed this with multiple people plus technician but Acura finds that normal. I am pursuing a lemon law on this car since Acura is not backing up there warranty and ignore this issue. What do you think about this matter? any inputs? ...thanks

I just got mine 2012 TL (w/5400miles) back yesterday from Acura Dealer, been in the shop for 24days for Acura to repair the clunking noise on my rear suspension. Their conclusion was "it's a Characteristic of the TL" ...but I found it is very odd because only one side of the rear made the noise. How many miles is it on yours? year? and did it gets louder as you drive? mine is getting louder slowly from day one and now is very noticeable and very hard on the ear.

I've got 48k on my 2009 and bought it with 38k, and it was pretty much there since I got it, so I dont know how long it was there before I owned it. But yes, the 2013 FWD TL loaner im driving now definietly has it, and like I said, with only just over 100 total miles on the clock. Mine, as well as this loaner, seems to be more at the RR corner of the car. As of just earlier today, the rep at Honda I spoke with said he's going to have Tech Line direct the dealer on how to do the bulletin that's listed, regarding the body seam repair or whatever it was. I stressed that the symptoms listed in that bulletin indicated more of a click or knock, which is not really the noise Im hearing. It sounded like they may do the body seam bulletin anyways, which is fine with me. They're also going to replace the LR strut....which im confident wont make a difference. Bottom line is I dont think they havce a definite fix yet, and while I feel there could be a legit issue with this body seam clicking or knocking noise on some cars, I dont think that's the issue we have going on here. But who knows....maybe I'll get the car back after they do the seam bulletin and it'll be ok. Hopefullly I'll be getting it back Friday.

I have the same issue. Driving out of my neighborhood daily over street cracks, and it sounds like a muted "pop" or thump. I only seem to hear it when driving below 40mph. Annoying as hell - never had a car that made that sort of sound over minor bumps. I've reported it twice to the dealer and they said everything under there (rear suspension) was tight. I had one of their loaner cars - same year TL as mine - and it made the same exact sound, so I agree with others that it may be a characteristic of the car. Frustrating.

Possible solution ?-> Noise from rear of car
Also noticed the same noise ( '14 SHAWD- Adv) - It definitely sounds like its coming from the wheel wells.
I changed my 18 OEMS' to 17" Blizzaks for the winter. While I noticed to "normal" snow tire sound/hum from all around the car. I did notice the clunking or thumping noises was louder with 17"'s on slight road cracks or bumps in the neigborhood
My Tech friend @ Acura said the wells are large ( and they are..) and do not have much noise dampening insulation under the trunk cover and over the interior wheel wells.
Question: has anyone heard of or tried using Dynmat Heat and Sound deadening ?
I understand it works.. a few sources ( Can't make it worse) ... Will need to disassemble the trunk liner over the wheel wells and layer this stuff over the wells
Curious if anyone has tried this and what there experience was
Thanks

Reviving an old thread because I bought a 2013 SH-AWD that has this infamous thump/clunk noise coming from the rear suspension. Is the consensus that it is what it is, or is there a way to fix it? Do we know for sure what it is? Thanks.

I've put ~30k on my '12 TL since May 2017, and haven't noticed any clunking noises from the rear end.
Is it possible somebody did work back there and didn't tighten up something/everything enough? I had that "learning experience" with another car. But if they were coming that way from the factory back when OP started the thread...
