Center Armrest

Just bought a 2010 TL Base with 24k miles and loving it. As when I buy any car, I drove it thoroughly enough to know that there were no squeaks or rattles. Then, I found and read this forum. Then I started listening closer, then i heard some noises. Drove me nuts. Moral of the story is to check the sunglasses holder. Do not know how they got in there and they are not mine, or anybody else in my family's. No noises! I was getting ready to go find a different car.

I have a question. Does anybody know how to remove the center armrest/console cover of a 4g? I bought used and a bubble/wrinkle needs to be fixed. I have read some other threads and understand that a dealer would probably take care of it under warranty. I want a local upholsterer to do it with real leather.

Thanks for the help.

have you tried looking around the area where the center arm rest is?

usually its just held by two screws to the base...

I have looked around and done some research. I have seen this pic. I got the two behind the rear vent cover. They do not release it, easily anyway. I think it is also fastened to the front, by the "u". Does anybody know where/how? Does it just pull apart like so many of the other parts? Thanks for the responses.

Went ahead and had the dealer replace it, under warranty. Dealer did a good job, but I just know it is a matter of time before this happens again. The replacement has an even cheaper look than the original. Certainly not leather, as everybody knows. Need to have this done right.

we all know its not leather....

i dont know how the replacement looks cheaper then the original, it should look exactly the same....because it is....

Probably minor color mismatch due to the new replacement part vs. the 2-yr old car.

newer = shinier = cheaper looking? I don't know. Just don't like it.

I have the same problem with my 2010 TL armrest. The problem is not so much with the leather but with the padding underneath. The black padding is cheap and quickly breaks down leaving the leather loose. When I took the leather off the foam just crumbles away in your hand. I am having mine replaced under warranty this week. I took pics of how it came apart. I just need to figure out how to post them.

Slide something thin between upper leather and lower plastic piece. I used a nutter knife. 2 clips in the front takes the bottom off. 6 screws hold the top leather covered piece on. Removal of entire armrest and hinge assembly not necessary to do this.

could you take photos of where you removed your bolts from the console itself?

Sav2010TL 01-08-2013 08:19 AM

Sorry, my pictures were from a junk unit that Acura was throwing away, I didnt actually take it out of the car. I just took it apart. You do not need to remove it to get the leather top off from my previous pictures.http://i1289.photobucket.com/albums/...87b8f1.jpg</a> I will post a pic of the bottom part of the console. It looks like 6 bolts but I'm not sure.

Just resurrecting this thread. Any other info on this?

The padding on mine is completely broken down from me leaning on it for the last 183K miles. I am going to drive this car as long as it will continue to drive, but I'm now leaning on hard plastic under leather and I need to fix it. Any ideas? Inexpensive replacement parts?

In the pics above, I couldn't tell how the leather is attached to the lid. Is it glued?

Thanks in advance.

Yes the leather is glued onto the plastic with the foam in the middle. If you take off the armrest any shop can do it for a great price!
