Car won't completely shut off
On a few occasions, I have driven my car and when I try to shut it off, it would just go in accessory mode. I try to press the start button several times to turn it off, but it just stays in accessory mode. I even start it back up and turn it off but it still stays in accessory mode. After several attempts of starting it up it will eventually completely shut off. When this first happen, I thought it was some fluke. But now it has happened several times now. I'm not sure why it happens as its completely random. Has anyone else experience this or know what the possible cause may be? Its a 2010 TL SH-AWD w/ Tech. Any input is appreciated. Thanks
Thanks for the response. Nothing recently installed. The car is pretty much stock. I did recently (few months ago) have the key slot replaced due to key not staying in slot and the car kept thinking the key was in there when it wasn't. Not sure if this problem occurred prior the key slot replacement.
It's acting like it would act if you pushed the button without returning the shifter to park. My "guess" would be the park/shift selection sensor isn't reading properly, (or, and I'm only guessing this because I do it from driving manuals for 20 years...you aren't putting it in park when you turn it off).
Same could work with a sensor on the brake pedal too....if you push start from an off position without your foot on the brake, it will just go in and out of accessory mode

Well it's likely a contact sensor... You could have a drop of sticky soda residue or something on it or something and it wouldn't make good contact all the time, and be intermittent.
Hot and cold outdoor temperature initiated problems tend to be dirty/malfunctioning sensor related.
Best bet is always the stealership with those things.

I actually had the same problem, and it turns out that my shifter cable was a little bit loose. Once I had it tightened, the problem went away. Ask your mechanic (or dealership, if that's where you go) to check for "play" in the shifter.
It could also be a contact sensor, as Pseudomaniac mentioned above.

First post on Acurazine, thank you for your posting. I recently purchased 2012 TL tech, And had the same issue. Took it in to the dealership and they said it was the first one they had seen with the issue. Adjusted the shift cable and everything seem to be good now, it's been 2 days and running smooth.
Came upon the problem recently.
Took it to the stealer and apparently my Key holder micro switch failed. The car seems to think that the key is in the slot even though I almost never use it.
I also had them check the shift cable while they were at it.
Total time at stealer 1:30 hours
Total cost -$3.00
I assumed the two coffees, the powerbar and the doughnut cost them something
