Broke 2 wires from factory stereo harness during stereo install. Help?
During a stereo install, two wires (ground and Steering wheel wires) were old and brittle at the pin that goes into the factory harness.
I dont think the WHOLE harness needs to be replaced. • Where can I buy pins to re-pin • Are there special tools for it? I am thinking I can re-strip, re-pin the wire and all will be well. Thoughts? Resources? help? |
did the pin break or was it just the wire that broke because it was old? If they are old and brittle you may also have another issue...something getting heated or shorting out. If the pin didn't break, and it's just wires that needs to be replaced, you can depin it and add a new wire. I made a custom harness for my amp wire and plugged it into my factory amp speaker wire outlet harness. I didn't use any special tools to depin and repin the harness. I just used a precision screw driver kit. They have depinning tools like this: link----> good luck. I would also suggest you inspect the other wires on your stereo harness. Make sure there's not an expose wire somewhere.

This is the 24 Pin Connector https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...e71323ca10.jpg This is the 24 pin connector. • 2 WIRES a yellow one and a Black one broke off from being...old i guess? • NEVER had any electrical problems. The car isn't throwing any codes whatsoever • I need 2 pins (AWG 20) and (AWG 24 or 26) • I need a tiny tool to release the broken wires into connector. • I need crimpers to recrimp the pin for the new wire to install into harness |
Get some new wire and extend it if necessary

Have you done this before?. Please see photo attached and let me know your thoughts |
Here's the link to the Pin Removal tool
https://www.amazon.com/Adduswin-Terminals-Extractor-Electrical-Connectors/dp/B07H7J9XHP/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=depinning+tool&qid=1561598576&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1
You can order the kit Thoiboi linked and return it if it doesn't work. You can skip it and try to reuse the old pins but might be a pain in the ass since they are so small. Also, that purple wire looks pretty beat up. has it always been like that or it happened when you were working on it. The red wire on the right side looks pretty discolored too. |
