airbag light on

so ive searched the forums and cant seem to find common issues with the airbag system. ive had the airbag recall done a month ago and last night got in my car to go home and the light came on. no damage on the car it sat in a parking lot so figured id see if anyone has heard of common issues or if i should just bring it to the dealer for them to look

Are you not getting a diagnostic code? Press info on your display and a menu comes up. Select information and then you should have some diagnostic codes for whatever is giving you the air bag light. I have the tech model 2012 but I think this is available for even the non-tech. If you let us know the codes, we may be able to give you more information. When my car sat for a while waiting for the air bag recall to be done, I suspect my (original Honda) battery drained significantly. I had codes 31-1 and 92-2 come up. Disconnected the battery, charged the battery for a couple of hours and when I reconnected, the code went away.

You could have a bad connection where the airbag recall was performed. See if you have diagnostic info. I have the tech manual for the 2012 TL and, unfortunately, if you have a real problem, it will take equipment only the dealer has to fix.

I've got this same problem; airbag light (and MID message) came on several months back, but then went away. After a recent B16 service, the mesage and light came back. Since I was still in the mechanic's lot, I had him bring the reader out to check. I'd been previously told that most often, it's a sensor in the seatbelt "receiver" end, but when he hooked up the scanner, he was unable to rest the code. He said that meant it was likely the "steering reel" (which I assume means the steering clock spring cable reel) or, worst case, the airbag itself. I had the recall done, but it was long enough ago that the warranty on the replacement airbag would be up.

My mechanic said that only a dealer would have the means to diagnose which of these two is the culprit, so it's going in on Friday to get diagnosed. Has anyone had these sorts of repairs completed? I'm curious what to expect if it's the steering reel vs. the airbag itself. I had to replace an airbag on my previous vehicle (3 times, actually) and that was about $1,200.

Was it part of the recall? I thought SRS components had lifetime warranties?

I'll need to peruse the warranty booklet for that. I've never heard of any component having a lifetime warranty, though I seem to recall a discussion I read about a previous generation that had lifetime warranty on the seatbelts, but that was. as I recall, due to a known issue with the seatbelts.

SRS warranty (at least for Canadian models) is 5/100,000 km.

Just heard back that my problem is neither the steering reel, nor "the" airbag, but it is "an" airbag, namely the driver's side airbag. $816.22 (CAN) installed, though they can't get the part for a couple of weeks. I'll be required to sign a waiver to pick up the car, since once the SRS light comes on, none of the SRS components remain active.

Just watch; I'm going to drop $816 on a new airbag, and in 6 months, they'll announce a recall.
