So about 3 weeks ago my air condition starting not working and it would kick on and off and now it just doesn't even turn on. Basically air is coming out but it is warm air. The compressor isn't kicking on therefore all the air coming out is hot air even when I have the AC on the coolest temperature. I've tried everything from inside the car but nothing is working. If any has any clue of what could be wrong please let me know so I can try to fix it. Thank you

have you physically looked at the compressor fan? are you sure it's not turning on?

if not coming on, did any work recently on that part of the engine bay?
sometimes, wire harnesses are forgotten and never clipped back in.

I haven't checked yet but I check it when I get home in a few hours. When I tell you the air coming out is hot, it's effin hot

If the refrigerant pressure is low, the A/C compressor will not kick in to protect the system.

i just checked the compressor, it is not kicking on. as for the refrigerant, if i do need to add freon does this mean i have a leak? because refrigerant should't run out this quickly correct?

If the AC clutch relay is bad, it can cause the system to overpressurize and vent freon. Its best to check for all possible problems, *before* just adding freon. Any of the following will cause the compressor to fail to engage.

1) bad AC clutch relay (just buy a new one for $6)
2) worn AC clutch (measure clearance)
3) bad AC coil - check spec'd resistance (ohms)
4) problem with AC fan system - fan relay, plugs, wiring, etc.
5) bad AC pressure switch - look around vent/switch for signs of freon venting
6) etc.

And that is not a complete listing of possible problems. Search and read some of the other threads, for *all* models, since this is not a problem for only the TLs. All Acura/ Honda models have occassional AC problems. The MDX has a TSB for the AC clutch relay, for example, and other models have the same problem.

My Acura dealer just told me that the AC compressor in my 14 TL needs to be replaced. It worked fine last Saturday morning. In the afternoon, after the temps went up to 90+, the AC blew only warm air. I also heard for the first time a loud rattling sound coming from the drive belt which sounded like a loose pulley. The dealer said both the AC clutch and the compressor are bad. Quoted $2000 for OEM A/C kit, $1450 for after market kit. The car has only 34,000 miles on it but is one year out of warranty.

Has anyone else needed a compressor in their TL with such low miles? I asked the dealer to request out-of-warranty discount as the car has so little miles. They are checking with HQ.

I've never heard of the AC compressor in a 4G TL dying. Especially a 2014 with only 34K miles. My 2012 has 208K miles on it and the AC blows likes ice.

You could just have terrible luck I guess. I'd definitely take it to an independent shop before you pull the trigger on that.

I'm in a tough spot. The tech at the Acura dealer said the AC clutch is coming apart and the drive belt could slip off at any time. That could leave me stuck on the side of the road just trying to drive the car to a reputable independent shop, which would cost me more in hassle and lost labor time than any likely savings from going to an independent garage. I called one independent I have used in the past (which is very rare because I have never had out-of-warranty work done on the four Acura/Hondas I have I owned, other than routine maintenance), and they quoted me $1700 to replace the compressor with the aftermarket kit.

My dealer is still waiting to hear whether Acura HQ will give me any discount for a new compressor. Interestingly, I found some old threads on this forum where people posted notices from Honda that it was extending the warranty on the AC clutch in the CRV to 100,000 miles because it was failing prematurely.

My AC recently stopped working as well. It's only blowing out warm air, no cold. I did the self-diagnostic and it showed no issues. I took it to my mechanic and he told me its the AC compressor and quoted me $875 for parts+labor. Funny thing is, I barely used the AC since I got the car a year ago but it sucks how it just died in mid-summer lol. I want to get a second opinion on this before I actually shell out $800+. Should I try taking it to the shop and adding freon? Any suggestions?

Is the clutch engaged and the compressor turning with the AC switch on? If not...the 1st thing I would check is the AC compressor relay. It's a relatively common occurrence for that relay to go bad. You'll need to access the fuse box under the hood and locate the proper relay. For testing purposes...I would swap the AC relay for the seat heat relay as both relays are the same. If your clutch engages and the compressor turns after the swap...you've most likely fixed the issue and can now proceed to the auto parts store to pick up a $6 replacement.

Here's an update to my prior posts. Eight days after my dealer submitted the request, Acura agreed to pay 80% of the cost for a new A/C compressor and related parts. I'm glad I did not get it fixed at an independent garage. I got the car back yesterday. The A/C blows much colder than it ever did, so I suspect there was a problem with the A/C all along and not just a sudden failure two weeks ago.
