2014 6MT Rear Main Seal Leak + Clutch

So I take my 2014 TL 6mt into the dealer for A16 service. My wife had noticed a few oil drops on the garage floor under my car so I mentioned it to the service rep. He calls me back and says it will be $120 to diagnose. I thought this was weird since its still under warranty (41k miles). He tells me if the issue is a warranty issue, they'll waive the $120.

A day later he calls me back and says the rear main seal is leaking and needs replace - it will be covered under warranty.

A week after that he calls back and says its almost done but that oil has leaked all over my clutch and they want to replace that at the dealer's expense.

I guess a new clutch on the house is a net positive, but I'm a little worried about why my rear main seal needs replaced at 41k. I don't have any oil consumption issues and don't really drive hard.

Anyone have this issue before?

My rear seal was leaking (very slow leak) and had it replaced under warranty this January at 70.4k Miles. No clutch oil issues but given they had everything apart I opted to pay the $ to have them replace the clutch with a new one for parts only.

Sometimes even from the factory after a bit the rear main seal can prematurely leak. I have seen it on multiple cars. Even a good customer has a newer CRV that comes here and the main seal is leaking.

If they are replacing it for free I wouldn't complain. Especially on our cars. That's a ton of labor hours.

So I spoke to my tech about this rear main seal issue, and it turns out that often it's not the RMS that's actually leaking but another o-ring on the inside of the RMS plate above it the RMS.

Have your techs remove the plate housing the RMS so the o-ring can be inspected as well.
