Hi,

I have a 2012 Acura TL AWD, since a couple day, I started hearing a whistling/whining noise in the engine bay/front of the car over 40-45km/h, under that it does stop. It is subtle, everything is closed in the car, radio, ventilation and window, all window seal look alright also. The car has 125K KM. Any idea where to start for troubleshooting or any idea what it might be?

Very common issue with prop shaft.

 

So an entire drive shaft change would be the solution?

 

Diagnosis first! Anything can make noise, you need to hang out the car and see where the noise comes from before changing anything. My propeller shaft does not make any noise at 300k km.

 

For me, it sounded like whistling and it was from front passenger side of car. They replaced the prop shaft (connects front to back) under warranty. That was a long time ago. I am at about 150, 000 km's and I think I had it done at around 55, 000 km. I recall that the 2012 had an updated prop shaft part that should have resolved the issue.

My 2012 has it replaced under warranty as I think it was updated half way through the production year so some 2012 are updated and some are not. You could probably do some internet magic or call a dealership to figure out if yours is updated or not. But I thought it's possible for the updated ones to fail and whine as well.
