2012 Acura TL Advanced (elite) steering noise video


I searched and found couple thread on same problem but, nothing was solved from what I've read. That is why I am posting the video.

PLEASE see the video

(IT'S NOT A LOUD SOUND BUT DEF. CAN BE HEARD IN QUITE CABIN SO PLEASE SET YOUR SPEAKER VOL. LITTLE BIT HIGHER)

2012 ACURA TL ADVANCED (ELITE) STEERING NOISE

same crackling sound came out of my 2012 ACURA MDX TECH

Does anybody know what it is? It sounds just like crackling noise from bad set of speakers.

It happens when steering is on center and when I start to steer a little bit to left or right.

any help or advice or suggestions welcome, since I will be sending ACURA CANADA a email about this problem effecting steering

have you tried bringing it back to the dealer first?

But, Usually same thing with mdx. if It is not TSB
they say (giving out some bs reason) go ride for a bit and see and comeback.

also had 2012 TSX but that was made in japan. shipped to North America.
supposedely same honda EPS system but, no rubbing or crackling noise at all...
Only thing it had was louder whining noise while turning the wheel...
I find the sound in american or ontario(canada) built vehicles...

Here is little update.
I called Acura CANADA today to let them know of the problem.
I told them
1. I had 3 Acura vehicles 11 MDX TECH, 12 TSX and 12 TL
2. Two made in USA(MDX and TL) had eps crackling noise as shown in the video
3. TSX did not have the problem
4. I've uploaded a video on youtube, and shared at acurazine forum
5. Many people are expriencing same problem in the forum
Acura CANADA said
1. He will document the problem reported
2. Very new vehicle, but report to the dealorship and show them the video to let them know
3. elevating the problem to higher level will start by reporting to dealorship.

I will see how it will be solved. I will keep you guys posted!
otherwise very enjoyable vehicle for the price indeed.

As I have posted on the other thread regarding the same issue here on AZ, I had a similar problem with my MazdaSpeed 6. It turned out to be a part ID sticker that had come loose from the back of the steering wheel was rubbing against the steering column. Simple fix: Remove sticker entirely. Have you taken the vehicle to a dealer?

Follow up 20120226- Dealor visit (ACURA EAST - Ajax, ON)

Problems presented
1. Headliner tick sound - fixed with ept tape
2. steering noise (shown on video)
- tech went on a test drive with me and confirmed the sound.
He stated the following
- It is sound from cable reel - It is 77900-TA0-C21 REEL ASSY., CABLE (FURUKAWA)
- It is normal (I do not understand this - even toyota echo do not have this and it's 30k+ cheaper)
- It is present on all acura line up has the same noise in varying degree (so all the HONDA/ACURA vehicles with same part should exprience similar noise, but My TSX did not have such noise but, 11 MDX did.)
- He refuse to do any work on it because it is normal

Bottom line - I am happy that headliner tick noise is now fixed with simple ept tape fix, but I am thinking quality control of the cable reel unit in question (77900-TA0-C21 REEL ASSY., CABLE (FURUKAWA)) is very sketchy. If the same unit in 12 TSX (built in Japan) does not make any sound, why should a customer of other Acura's built in USA suffer?
I am suspecting, like everything else They keep the A stock (better quality controlled) parts for JDM. and ship the B stock to USDM built vehicles or since the part itself seems to be from japan, something happened during the massive shipment of parts to USDM factories. I will be writing to acura CANADA about this. with the video link. and will see what happens.

I have called ACURA CANADA
the person (client services) stated
- replacement of the cable reel under warranty can not be authorized since the technician at the dealership thought it was normal and did not think replacing it would make it better
- He kept on saying "the minimal noise of yours" what an attitude.. basically telling me to live with it
- he suggested visiting other dealership in vicinity to get second opinion (which I doubt, other dealership that I did not buy the car from would be nice enough to work with me to make me happy) and see if they will authorize the replacement
- I told him that exact same part in my 12 TSX did not make such noise, but he said "It is different car TL and TSX"
- He told me that he is just a client services guy sitting behind the desk, and there is nothing he can do to authorize the replacement since dealership (hands and legs of ACURA CANADA) thinks it is normal and replacing them would not relieve the issue

Bottom line -
I am really fed up with taking this BS. Nobody even the dealership that I bought the car from does not want to make customer happy. Who am I relying on here for warranty?
I have read here that some members in USA got there cable reel replaced and in the end resolved rate is about 50% from what I have read on forums.

Where should I be contacting now? any suggestions? or Should I just shut up and live with it like the dealership and ACURA CANADA said?
