Vibration at 70 MPH in 2012 Acura TL

Last Friday I received a call from April my Acura Headquarter's customer rep. The call was recorded. I had filed a complaint with Acura about the high frequency vibration that occurs at 70 MPH in my brand new 2012 TL. Earlier in the week the Kentucky service rep had my car for a test drive. April stated that the car did indeed vibrate as I had stated. She said all 2011-12 TL's have the same problem and the Acura engineers have NO FIX. She then amazed me when she stated that Acura considers this problem as a "VEHICLE CHARACTERISTIC."
I suggested to her that Acura could use this in their advertising. "Buy a new Acura TL which comes with leather seats, sunroof, AWD, powerful V6 engine and built in vibration at 70 MPH which you will love."
She told me to go back to my dealer, Courtesy Acura of Lexington, Kentucky and trade out to another Acura model at my expense.
I have filed a complaint with Consumer Reports and retained an Attorney.

I have had my CPO '10 SH AWD 6mt for almost 2 months now. I picked up the car at the Acura Dealer in Charleston SC and drove home to South Florida. mostly in the 70s and 80s with no noticeable vibration. I then drove to Sarasota with the family about 2 weeks ago and hit speeds in the 90s while playing "tag" with an Audi SUV coming accross Aligator Alley and again felt no vibrations. It has the Mich Pilot HX MXM4 tires on it.

I no longer have the vibration since the detailed rebalance as reported above. As for my whine they replaced the tranny and now no more whine. I am happy, but will not buy another AWD Acura!

Just because it is a characteristic does not make it right or acceptable. I suggest you keep on pushing them to make this right.

Vibration at 70 MPH in 2012 Acura TL.

I have solved my vibration problem in my new 2012 Acura TL. Last Saturday I traded the car for a 2012 Mercedes C Class AWD. Having to sell a 3 month old car cost me a small fortune. Neither Acura nor the dealer I bought the lemon from offered any assistance.

You've only passed the vibration problem along to the next "lucky" owner.

I have a similar vibration problem, starting around 80MPH, clears around 83-84MPH. It's a very subtle vibration felt through the acceleration peddle and the steering wheel. I will have to note the problem next time I go to my Acura dealer (Park Ave Acura in NJ on Rt 17).

Guys, sorry to hear about your predicaments. At 1600 miles, my 2012 6MT has not exhibited any of these issues. Hence, I hope it does not reveal itself as an "inherent" characteristic to our cars. I have read from Hondanews.com that the suspension and steering calibrations are different for FWD vs AWD auto vs AWD 6MT if these infos help any.

On the other hand, my 2007 Toyota Sienna AWD with run flats have had perennial vibrations issues, similarly at 60-70 mph. I hope NAVIGATOR's specific road force number technique will prove successful for me.

Thanks.

2012 tl sh awd

It is inherrent in all the TL's. After purchasing my 2012 the vehicle was back at the dealership with an Acura head office technical rep coming down twice. I have again recently contacted Acura (Honda Canada) and there is no fix. I have now driven 30,000 miles and the problem is becoming worse. Acura needs to be made accountable for this problem, I have somewhat given up and may resort to contacting our motoring press and never driving an Acura again when my lease expires in 11 months.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this!! Help me!! I just purchased a 2011 Acura TL with 50,000 miles and as soon as I got on interstate I noticed the shake with a harsh vibration in the gas pedal. It does feel like maybe there are flat spots of the tires or maybe one low on air. I did notice the air in my tires wasn't even on each tire so I fixed that hoping to solve the problem and it did not. I have had the car for 4 days and it is driving me crazy! I travel for work and spend a lot of time driving and can not deal with this if it is a vehicle characteristic! Any suggestions? Or should I take it to the dealer and demand a buy back?

Some of these posts are about sh-awd cars and some about fwd only cars. The obvious places to look, depending on age of vehicle and history, are tires out of balance, tires delaminating internally, wheels bent or not installed flush with the hubs, brakes rusted or seized, rotors warped, etc. Lots of other potential causes but these are the easiest and most likely. The vibration is definitely not a characteristic of the fwd cars. I just drove to Fla. and back to Canada and my car with 40,000 miles on it was smooth as butter at speeds up to and including 93 mph. I could take my hands off the wheel briefly and the car tracked straight and true for hundreds of yards before needing a minor steer. I feel bad for you guys who can't find proper service and redress for your issues.
If at all possible, one way to check this is to drive the car where it makes the vibration and have a friend observe the wheels from another vehicle. Dangerous if you don't pay attention so be careful. You often see cars on the hiway where one wheel is obviously out of balance or alignment, bouncing up and down like crazy.

Search for a spot to get your wheels and tires "Road Force" balance and have an alignment done as well to start trouble shooting the problem. While getting an alignment done, also tell the tech your problem beforehand, so they could check bushings, lose bolts, etc...

Hey, alrello, if you are still around, that was a very funny post.
Glad you can keep a sense of humour when you are getting shafted, lol.
I see you got a Benz. How is it for rattles and vibrations?
I have no idea what a C class is, btw.
I really like Acura but it seems they cannot make a car that's truly quiet on bad roads.

It would have been interesting if Alrello would have hung in there and tried for a lemon law solution. If this is a known problem affecting a large percentage of cars, then my position would have been that it should have been revealed to me before the purchase. The failure to reveal this could be considered fraud and in Texas an adverse ruling would have put them on the hook for triple damages.

I have a 2012 awd and I have not experienced this issue. I had the oem tires when I got the car and drove it from Colorado to Iowa. No issues. I now have the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4's and they blow the originals out of the water. I have done quite a bit of interstate driving and have not once had a vibration issue. I did hear the whining one time but haven't since the one time. Hope you guys can get an answer to this.

Wow is all I can say, I've had my 12 AWD advance for almost 2 years. I started to notice a vibration like around 60 mph, man this is so sad that a vehicle with only 9000 miles has such an issue that can't be fixed. From what I'm reading so far this can't be fixed and I'm one pissed off person.

So I did a little detective work, when I purchased my car in 2012 the car drove perfectly and no issues. I upgrade to Tein SS with EDFC and no issues, then added the 20'S and everything worked fine. I decide to take the 20'S off to store the for the winter then I put my OEM 19'S back on and all the issues with the shacking started, when I noticed the issue of shacking I took the car to balanced and align 3 times and the car would shake at about 60 no matter what I did. Long and behold I went back and told my boy to put my 20'S back on, I took it for a drive and no shacking at all. I went back told him no shacking and that it had to be one of the OEM rims that must have an issue. He decides to take each tire of the rim and the last one had 1/4 gallon of water in it, fucking water man. He dried out the water and the car drove perfectly. Sometimes I think the weirdest shit happens to me, the 19 had been in storage at my boys shop and somehow water got in one of them. Now im totally happy that the car is running 100%.

I took my 2009 to the dealer a few times. I even took the manager out on the highway his response was don't do 75 miles per hour. That he can't find any issues. The next day I went and purchased a brand new Subaru and never looked back at Acura . I took it to Wantagh Acura.

I noticed it by having my cruise set at 80 and going down the highway, when you go up in incline you hear the whine, going down it goes away.

Will ask about prop shaft....

Dam frustrating.
we had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. what size tires were on there? 19?

- Took the car back to Dealer and told them that it is still there I wanted to escalate the issue to Acura corporate.
- They ask for me to drop the car off last Wedensday when the acura rep was going to be onsite.
- They drove the car and drove some other TL-SHAWD models and said they drive the same.
- They contacted Acrua and Hunter Engineering. Hunter makes the wheel balance machines.
- Hunter told them that if I drive the car at these speeds then the balanceing magic number (not sure what this is but lower is better) needed to be below 19. One of mine on the front was a 29 and the other a 21.
- My car now has balancing all tires under 19. 10, 14, 11, 12.
- I picked the car up thursday and drove to the airport and parked it as I am traveling again. The road tot he airport is all concrete and not the best test, so I do not know for sure, but on the drive it felt much better.
- This makes sense to me as it has always felt like a balance problem and that it needed to be done with more precision.
- I also think it is a factor of the tire, I do not like these all season tires. I like michellian, but have never liked all seasons.
- As soon as I can I will be exchanging them for higher performance summer tires.

I will of course update everyone later next week when I return home and have some time to get her out on some smooth black-top.

For now I am very happy to finally find some help and resolution in this, I just wish we could have envloved Hunter from the begining.
AFter the fix, did you vibration ever return? Since it was oddly specific balancing that fixed it, did the wheels wear unevenly? Any issues after the fix? Its several years later i know but I have the same issue and trying to give the fix to the tire place

I have a 2010 Acura TL-AWD, I have changed tires, my wheels are fine no bent, I am also looking to find a cure for this disease. Apparently I have approx 104000 miles on the dial so I was thinking that my inner CV joint may have been worn out but my axles have been checked by several acura dealers, independent workshop but nobody has ruled in favor of the inner CV joint. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't own that car anymore, but no more issue after that. Now with all my cars I demand them to road force balance below 19 and I want a printed copy of the report. I have never had anymore issues on any car. Currently driving a 2018 TLX ADV.
