1st gear limited to 2000 RPM
Sorry if this is a newbie question, but my 2012 Acura TL won’t let me go past 2000 RPM’s in 1st gear, even when using the paddles. Is this normal? Thanks to everyone in advance!

Its normal. If you want it to rev higher in first then you have to mash the gas pedal from a stop and it will rev in first gear almost to the red line. Once you get used to it you can get first to rev however high you want it to depending on how much pressure is applied to the gas pedal (from a stop). Mash it from a stop and you'll see.

Its not really how fast you push the pedal but how far down. Is yours FWD? Not sure if theres a difference but my sh-awd will rev in first in both auto and sport.

Not sure to be honest. Does the transmission shift well otherwise?

The inconvenient truth
Its normal that it wont rev much in first unless you punch it from a stop. But if it wont rev in first even when you do mash it from a stop then that is definatly not normal. Theres a TSB for the transmission software update that you should look into. Maybe that will change it. I had that TSB done (for free) but I cant say what difference it made since I had it done very soon after purchasing my 2012 SH. If you do find the shifting to be even a little jerky at times then for sure go to the dealership and ask them to do that TSB. That's exactly what the tranny software update is supposed to fix. Then see if it helps with the reving in first.

Also when was the last time your transmission fluid was changed? Fresh fluid can help with the shifts (the Transmission software update TSB includes changing the transmission fluid)

Yeah, definitely not normal if you press the pedal to the ground (WOT) from a stop. With a tune, mine doesn't shift until about 7000 RPM in 1st at full throttle. However, if you're driving conservatively, it shifts into 2nd as early as 1500 RPM. At different levels of throttle it will stay in 1st longer. But 2000 RPM with a moderate to full amount of throttle is weird.
