Solo Skyline Drive Trip (Virginia)

So yesterday on a whim I decided to take a two hour drive to Skyline Drive in Virginia. It's near the Blue Ridge Mountains and has some awesome roads to test the SH-AWD on and I have got to say, I am extremely impressed! I did splurge a little and push the throttle during the hairpin turns but the car gripped the road without any effort. There were many dangerous cliffs at the turns of most of the hairpins so if any of you decide to visit, please drive cautiously and obey the speed limit!

Anyways, I plan to go again on the 5th of August with my friend and his 12' M3 along with a tripod/DSLR for an official photo shoot with the mountain backdrop. I couldn't take any pictures during the actual climb due to safety reasons but here's some pictures! Enjoy!

I'll update this post after the second trip with more pics of the actual hairpins and maybe a video or two!

Isn't the speed limit between 25 and 40 mph? Don't obey the speed limit, or you will be bored out of your mind.

Great pics, didn't Top Gear (UK) film one of their episodes there and even joked about the speed limit.

Skyline is great, but its swarmed with cops nowadays. I miss the days when I could take me R1 up there without worries. Nice pics btw.

Oh man pictures hardly do any justice to the actual views up there. I just ordered a gopro hero which should be here tomorrow and will definately post some videos next time. Alot of cops on the way there but surprisingly none at the actual park itself. I did see alot of bikes in groups that day as well as a group of brz and frs's.

This coming fall will be perfect for more trips due to the weather cooling down and the trees changing color.

My wife and I went with some friends a couple years ago. I tried out his $8,000 nikon setup with both of the 2.8s. It was just amazing in the fall, definitely a great place to go back to.

Thanks for the tip about this. We just moved to Richmond and this looks like a great drive to take when the leaves start to change!

If you decide to go, the fee to enter is $15.00(week pass) and you should bring your own food either BBQ or picnic stuff. They do have a center there that sells food but I wouldn't trust it and it's quite expensive. There also is camping spots if that's your thing. Bears and another animals are common as well.

Nice scenic drive. How far is that from Arlington? Might want to ask my co-worker to take me there the next time I'm in D.C. for work.

I live in Fairfax and the drive took me about an hour with no traffic of course. For directions, go to your navi screen and look for the scenic route option and under Virginia, you will see the Skyline Drive waypoint. Even though it may say two hours give or take from the DC area, about an hour of it is the actual park itself. Enjoy.
