Puddle Lights on 4G :)

This has been in my mind for a very long time. I've been wanting to do this for a while. This looks really good, great work!! I'll definitely be doing this soon.

Be sure to flush-mount though. I had them bracket mounted - doesn't do well with water. I just pulled my skirts today and will be drilling 22mm holes and weather proofing everything. -30C Calgary weather sucks. |
Looks great! Where did you get them and did you hook them up to come on with the interior lights? Also, any closup pics of the install underneath?
|
Nice!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123 They are hooked up to come on with the dome lights, so when you unlock/open doors they come on, and when you lock the car they fade out (just like the dome lights on the inside do - pretty sick). The dome light wire is behind the driver side fuse box which is a huge PITA to get to though. I didn't take any underbody pictures of the bracket-mount install - BUT I actually have my skirts off right now ready to drill holes and flush mount them so I'll keep this thread updated with pictures and videos of them in action. I should be done within the next couple days. Skirts are pulled: http://www.kooty.net/photos/tl/IMG_0244.jpg Drill locations are marked up: http://www.kooty.net/photos/tl/IMG_0247.jpg

Apparently there's another wire in the A-Pillar as well, but I didn't want to run the wire all the way so. The puddle lights are a negative switch, so you'll have to find a constant 12V lead as well (which isn't that hard). |
I believe you're the first 4G to do this. |
UPDATE: I just came back from the store with a 22mm Hole Saw, Bit, Soldering Flux, and 16G Cable for my flush mounts.
I have to make sure that EVERYTHING is weatherproofed and perfect, because fixing a bad/broken connection is going to be 10 times than my bracket mount install. http://www.kooty.net/photos/tl/IMG_0249.jpg |
give a good diy on where to wire and such for us noobs!
|
Very nice! I would love to do this along with the light up door handles light the RL
|
Might run 16G wire all the way tomorrow so I'll take pictures of the dome light lead location while I'm at it okay :)
I'll make this a proper 4G TL puddle light DIY guide! |
Nice job.

Why would you need plumber's flux for a wiring job?

I believe you're the first 4G to do this. +1.....Well done! |
Just finished flush mounting my lights and weatherproofing. Not a single problem so far. And it looks better because the lights are higher and have a wider spread.
Pictures to come over the next day or two! |
where did you wire the power to at the fuse box? diy please!
|
Looks Good! Do a video at night turning those lights on then TAKING OFF! Like a UFO!...Swoooshhhhhh! Did you tap the power wire into the power of the courtesy door lights?
|
