nice work. Is there some way you're doing it that makes it match better? I have a WDP 09 with a painted center grille but its chipping and want to have them redone. I dont think mine has as much of a pearl shine to it. Shoot me a PM or if you don't mind let us know your secret

Sure is, the pearl doesn't pop unless you see it in person. I put two coats of pearl on, if you add too much it because muddy looking.
No secrets here bud. The reason why these grilles chip is because they aren't prepped correctly. Usually body shops just scuff and shoot these grilles. I sand them down with a coarser sand paper, giving it a bit more of a "bite". I then apply an epoxy primer which bites down into the metal. This primer drives overnight. These steps prevent chipping because the paint becomes "one" with the grille, rather then sitting on top of it. Speaking of match, I just use some of the better paints around, they cost more but in the end, the match is really all that matters.

As for the grille, in order for it to be done correctly, all the paint needs to be stripped off.

There is no such thing as "oem" paint (probably said that to make you happy). OEM is a term. Paint is made by paint manufactures such as Debeer, Dupont, PPG, Sikkens, RM etc. Factories all over the world will use a certain brand of paint. Each company that makes paint produces a paint matched to each paint code. Some brands have an economy lines which is cheaper with poorer matches. So when someone says, use OEM paint, that really doesn't make sense.

You have to find a paint supply shop that carries PPG. All body shop stories cater to different paint brands.
FOR WDP, it has two colors, groundcoat and pearl.
Most other colors are just basecoat/clearcoat.

Quick question(s), the grille should be here tomorrow. I thought it would be a quick swap (15-30 min), but random threads I searched said there were a bunch of (16-30) screws and tabs and 2.5 hrs to get the grille off. Is it it because they removed the whole grille (09-11) and not just the shield? do you know of the best way to remove just the shield?
I posted rather than PM'd in case someone else needed a reference.

Stew4HD is the guy you want to talk to. he replaced his and if i remember correctly, it didn't take him too long and he didn't have to take the bumper off.
Maybe he can chime in..

I was able to do it without removing the bumper. I took the 4 10mm bolts at the top of the grille and then gently pulled the grille forward enough to get my hand/arm in there to reach the 8 screws holding the insert in place. There was no tabs to remove to do it. It's tight and hard on the arms. I used 1'4" ratchet, universal and extension to help. Was maybe a one hour job.
I have to remove the bumper to do the next mod (the white insert and bands).

This is so silly to be stressing over haha. I guess I still have new car jitters (I'm scared to damage/scratch anything).
Oh and is it me or did Acura switch to some cheap nuts/bolts/screws since the 1990s? I felt like I could bend those bolts with my bare hands.

Hmm, I just poked around in there as I was putting the license plates on. I got the 4 10mm's off, but wasn't sure if there was enough lee-way for me to sneak my arm in, but I'll try it. I also thought about reaching up from below, but had no idea how many screws there were.

The bumper is easy to remove as well. It's a little harder to remove with the front lip installed but do-able.. about 10 - 10mm bolts and about 6 plastic button pins (or whatever they are called).

Word of note... I just remembered.. pay close attention to the bolt pattern on the replacement insert you are going to install. There are about 12 screws in the area but only the 8 in the same pattern as the replacement need loosening and removing.
Also, I ended up having to loosen the bumper because I dropped one of the screws. Murphy had to make an appearance, making one the screw I dropped fall inot a spot where I could not get at it with a magnet or anything...
There is more than one thread on here showing a detailed guide on how to install the 4G front lip (use search).. use that to guide you if you want/need to remove the bumper. It sounds daunting but it really is a piece of cake.. I rinted out the PDF and keep it handy.
