jnc2000's WDP SH-AWD progression thread
Modding is a sickness. I had it on my 3G - sold it, bought a Ridgeline, and shortly found out I missed having a TL. A year later I found myself in a WDP SH-AWD TL. :)
I'm starting this thread to document the progression of my TL. The first batch of pictures are from when I brought her home on November of last year. http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...06_5MYtt-L.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...04_7474F-L.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...39_QBRhi-L.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...34_8UMM4-L.jpg |
A month, and a short 3000 miles later I started my first work with some parts purchased from forum member BlackAcura.

For my winter tires, I opted for the Alpin PA3's - Never regretted them one second this winter. Until something better comes out these will be my number one recommended tires for my style of driving (mostly highway) with snow and ice.

Next up a proven mod on the 3rd gens I oped to have some work done on the intake runners :)

Awesome start! Love the color choice, keep up the good work:thumbsup:

Then the deadening starts...

Two coats of 80 on the outer skin topped with V4 then sealed with 80. Here are picture of a door panel --- all of them were deadened with 80 and strategic placement of V4 where there might be plastic on plastic rubbing, or where I wanted to block of large areas. http://jczech.smugmug.com/Cars/2010T...8_4A647-XL.jpg The rear shelf got a treatment of V3 liquid, topped with eDead 80. http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...2_S97QV-XL.jpg The trunk floor. http://jczech.smugmug.com/Cars/2010T...5_xaMNo-XL.jpg Strategic placement of piece of V4, couple coats of 80 top off the rear shelf to help mass load and help reverberations. http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...0_mPTVi-XL.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...6_nAdVs-XL.jpg |

TEIN SS arrived last week... :) :toocool:
Got put on this past weekend :mizouse: http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...3_U3J4e-XL.jpg Oh, did I mention EDFC  http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...9_vAwkd-XL.jpg Only managed to get a couple pictures during the install. Our hands were entirely too dirty to use a camera. Never mind the whole process was so involved I didn't even want to think about taking pictures, I just wanted to complete it. http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...9_G6U7D-XL.jpg A rear EDFC motor http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...12_PqiqH-L.jpg The install was a PITA - but well worth it in the end. Started another thread to keep the technical questions in the proper forum. The following pictures are pre-alignment. They're post Huper Optik ESC 35 as well. I'm very happy with this tint, and can't recommend Huper Optik enough. http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...0_gtSUN-X2.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...8_zWJZR-X2.jpg These are the OEM 18's with my winters. Note.. these 18's are an offset of +55 http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...3_mbuzp-X2.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...9_UvXwm-X2.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...1_3Yxc3-XL.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...3_2hocs-XL.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...0_Z5bnd-X2.jpg |
wow...a drop makes such a difference...not a shock, just reiterates.
|
wow nice progress ... how quiet is the car now?? how heavy are the doors?
|
Rockstar, yes, it does make a drastic difference. I can't say state how happy I am with this drop. Night and day difference.
VQ, it's noticeably quieter. The biggest difference though is in the SQ of the OEM speakers, and how it re-inforced the door's to improve the midbass, and imaging. The deadening also helped lower the noise floor so my HFL works better. My wife says it sounds much better, and it doesn't sound as if I'm on BT anymore. Thanks for the kind words guys... I've got a bit in store for the WDP through the summer so stay tuned. In the mean time I've got a bit more updates to add :) |
A quick shot of the EDFC hiding in the glove box
http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...07_88UEW-L.jpg Test pipe and and j-pipe http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...54_ubNm8-L.jpg The orange goop is hi-temp silicone for a proper seal. It burned off after a couple nice 3am runs :) http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...w78Gz-XL-1.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...3vjSq-XL-1.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...22KDn-XL-1.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20..._YfG8C-L-1.jpg http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...bPqMJ-XL-1.jpg |

2011 National AcuraZine Meet-Kansas City-June 12, 2011-Details Here! . |
The 4G is indeed an amazing car! Thanks for all the kind words guys. I'll promise you I have some more things up my sleeve... like some custom forged 19x9 wheels from RonJon, as well as the RonJon grill ;)
Here are some teaser cad drawings of the wheels. Any feedback is appreciated. http://ronjonwheels.com/hidden/forge...ono-1990-2.jpg http://ronjonwheels.com/hidden/forge...ono-1990-3.jpg |

Damn man... that is sick... puts my car to shame. I've got two more updates for the year, then i'm done till next year. Going to paint the rear trim black and put red tint on the rear lights (will look awesome on the black car).
I've been thinking about doing dynomat or some sound deadening to the car to lower the road noise and also make the doors a bit more solid sounding when you shut them. Do you have any idea what it would cost to have someone put the deadening stuff in the doors, floor and trunk? I'm thinking next year will be sound deadening and *maybe* teins. But i'm also waiting for my existing shocks to wear a bit more so I can use the upgrade as a "maintenance item". We'll see... Looks aweseome, keep up the great work. ps - Custom forged wheels from RJ = :pimp: |
notice any diff with the tb spacer?
|
you're not messing around
|
No he's not messing around, these wheels will compliment the 4G nicely, and his aspirations for traction will be unrivaled, 275/35/19 should supply this car with the best handling of any 4G in the world, not to mention the wheels will come in at a scant 21 lbs per corner.
|
damn  very clean 4G

I didn't know you were from Ohio...which part?

Very nicely done, keep up the good work!!

They'll fit and ride flush without any fender rolling needed. One of my requirements so I can run a 275/35 series tire. |
Awesome progress so far!
|
275's!? damnnn wanna see that fitment!!!

45mm offset should put the wheels at the same position as the 8.5" width and 40mm offset, here's a preview of how they will line up:
http://ronjonwheels.com/hidden/forge...ock/tl4-80.jpg here's another wheel cut from the same blank, and the blank itself: http://ronjonwheels.com/hidden/forge...k/sample-1.jpg http://ronjonwheels.com/hidden/forge...ck/blank-1.jpg the Legend design in the CAD file with 7 spokes, but we changed that and saved 4 lbs with the change over to 5 spokes. http://ronjonwheels.com/hidden/forge...ono-1990-3.jpg |
