jnc2000's WDP SH-AWD progression thread

Modding is a sickness. I had it on my 3G - sold it, bought a Ridgeline, and shortly found out I missed having a TL. A year later I found myself in a WDP SH-AWD TL. :)

I'm starting this thread to document the progression of my TL.

The first batch of pictures are from when I brought her home on November of last year.

A month, and a short 3000 miles later I started my first work with some parts purchased from forum member BlackAcura.

For my winter tires, I opted for the Alpin PA3's - Never regretted them one second this winter. Until something better comes out these will be my number one recommended tires for my style of driving (mostly highway) with snow and ice.

Then the deadening starts...

I didn't take detailed pictures of every door and every step along the way, but rest assured every door was done the same way. Two coats of 80 on the outer skin topped with V4 then sealed with 80.

Here are picture of a door panel --- all of them were deadened with 80 and strategic placement of V4 where there might be plastic on plastic rubbing, or where I wanted to block of large areas.

Oh, did I mention EDFC

http://jczechphotography.com/Cars/20...9_vAwkd-XL.jpg

Only managed to get a couple pictures during the install. Our hands were entirely too dirty to use a camera. Never mind the whole process was so involved I didn't even want to think about taking pictures, I just wanted to complete it.

The install was a PITA - but well worth it in the end. Started another thread to keep the technical questions in the proper forum.

The following pictures are pre-alignment. They're post Huper Optik ESC 35 as well. I'm very happy with this tint, and can't recommend Huper Optik enough.

wow...a drop makes such a difference...not a shock, just reiterates.

VQPower37 03-21-2011 07:46 PM

wow nice progress ... how quiet is the car now?? how heavy are the doors?

jnc2000 03-21-2011 07:57 PM

Rockstar, yes, it does make a drastic difference. I can't say state how happy I am with this drop. Night and day difference.

VQ, it's noticeably quieter. The biggest difference though is in the SQ of the OEM speakers, and how it re-inforced the door's to improve the midbass, and imaging. The deadening also helped lower the noise floor so my HFL works better. My wife says it sounds much better, and it doesn't sound as if I'm on BT anymore.

Thanks for the kind words guys... I've got a bit in store for the WDP through the summer so stay tuned. In the mean time I've got a bit more updates to add :)

The 4G is indeed an amazing car! Thanks for all the kind words guys. I'll promise you I have some more things up my sleeve... like some custom forged 19x9 wheels from RonJon, as well as the RonJon grill ;)

Here are some teaser cad drawings of the wheels. Any feedback is appreciated.

Pete2010 03-22-2011 11:37 AM

Damn man... that is sick... puts my car to shame. I've got two more updates for the year, then i'm done till next year. Going to paint the rear trim black and put red tint on the rear lights (will look awesome on the black car).

I've been thinking about doing dynomat or some sound deadening to the car to lower the road noise and also make the doors a bit more solid sounding when you shut them. Do you have any idea what it would cost to have someone put the deadening stuff in the doors, floor and trunk?

I'm thinking next year will be sound deadening and *maybe* teins. But i'm also waiting for my existing shocks to wear a bit more so I can use the upgrade as a "maintenance item".

We'll see... Looks aweseome, keep up the great work.

ps - Custom forged wheels from RJ = :pimp:

Teddybear 03-22-2011 03:26 PM

notice any diff with the tb spacer?

jiggaman 03-22-2011 04:01 PM

you're not messing around

rondog 03-22-2011 04:27 PM

No he's not messing around, these wheels will compliment the 4G nicely, and his aspirations for traction will be unrivaled, 275/35/19 should supply this car with the best handling of any 4G in the world, not to mention the wheels will come in at a scant 21 lbs per corner.

I've seen you're car - it looks amazing with the RonJon grill. I can't wait to get mine on. The doors deffinatly have that nice solid feel to them now, along with the trunk lid. The material cost for the deadening ran around $450. Factor in normal shop time of $50/hr for 8-10 hours if they work fast and you'll pay a pretty penny for it. IMO that's why I did it myself, and I appreciate my labor that much more. Not to mention I know its done right.

The custom wheels will be hott! :toocool:

It was installed with everything else... if anything maybe a few top end hps... but the end goal from the gaskets and whatnot was to prevent heatsoak.

Ron, I can't way to start seeing how the wheels turn out. Should look killer on the TL, not to mention the unsprung weight savings and slick looking 275/35 series tires.

The 19x9 forged that RonJon is making?

They'll fit and ride flush without any fender rolling needed. One of my requirements so I can run a 275/35 series tire.

45mm offset should put the wheels at the same position as the 8.5" width and 40mm offset, here's a preview of how they will line up:

here's another wheel cut from the same blank, and the blank itself:

the Legend design in the CAD file with 7 spokes, but we changed that and saved 4 lbs with the change over to 5 spokes.
