4G '09-'11 & '12 Combination Grille, Planning and Worklog

Again, I think we're all astounded. In the 3G section, member mmade22 (I think) pioneered a custom grille design that many members have done since. Involves cutting out the center bar and having the floating "A" be the only thing in the grille. This thread reminds me of it- I'm sure more people are going to attempt this on their 4Gs.
Hush. This is a good thread.

It go's waayyyy back before mmade22's time.
Great job Nexson! Love the look and thank you for all the information and pictures.

Thanks!!!!
I am glad you have a '12 then, but that price is right about dead on hahaah. Not only does the front have to be molded but the rear as well because it has all the mounting holes and brackets, then furher more, the black inner mesh has to be modded to fit. Alot of stuff i didn't photograph because it wouldn't make sense.
Thank you! You still have a great car in the 2012. When I bought this 2010, i tried to look past the exterior, and I just knew I could pull something off, but frankly, if it wasn't for the '12 it wouldnt be possible
Mesh looks 100x better now that less is shown, I really like that mesh and it isn't like the homedepot honeycomb grille I have seen on other grilles.
Just out of curiousity (and I thought about this after I hung up with you) but where would I send a thread like this? Like what email address? I would like for it to be seen.
I usually get there way before the students arrive and leave way after they go home, but a few 5th graders will be like wow lol. The rest of the kids are too young to care. here's a side view
We will see what happens haha, but not likely, maybe on my time off. I have to test this version, see how it does in the elements, high speeds etc.
I am sure you can but it will have to be frankensteined in from the rear, but as long as it works.
You'll have to see it, looks way awesome now, fixed that big gap too, looks awesome!
if you look at my original mock up with the yellow outling, it was actually cut at that point. I cut it taller then i needed, then cut little bits off at a time.
Hey Brian,
I don't blame you for not wanting to ever go through that process again. A labor of love indeed. If I had an '09-'11 and didn't have the RJ grille, I would be begging you to make me one... even though it might cost $1k+ to make it
Too bad that there isn't a way to get a cast of the new surround piece you created but that would also make for more work.
Also, sorry to get your thread a bit sidetracked... I was only trying to keep the focus on what you have done and not make it about liking or not liking the OEM grille

AWESOME!!!
You are a literal 'plastic' surgeon - best nose job solution and I have your painted grille. It's even cleaner than the '12 since it has less trim. Had Acura come out with your design - the grille would have NEVER been an issue and our 4G's would have the respect they deserve. More pics pls!
I really hope the Acura designers see this.

mr brian. kudos on the beautiful car, not that it wasn't beautiful to begin with...hehe. can you post a closer side profile shot of the front? is there still an "over-hang," like the original grill?
what do you students say when they see you rolling in the school parking lot with this baby?
anyways....two thumbs up. your car reminds me of a car that brought me into the acura/honda brand to begin with. it's like never forgetting your first. ;-)

Brian the paint booth looks great and the grille looks even better. I guess all of our little talks are paying off now huh? Lol. Seriously though I think that that grille looks better than the 09-11 or the 12. Im sure you could make a fortune off of producing and selling these grilles.

I think this design incorporates the best of both worlds. I like the agressive look of the 09-11 TL's (bumpers) better than the 12 also, but I do like the beak/grille design of the 12. He has incorporated both designs in one. I like it alot. This is what the Acura design engineers should have done, but were obviously to lazy and in a hurry.

Does anyone know how we could get Acura/Honda corporate to look at Brian's work? An email address, a contact, anything?

I am really interested in getting Acura to at least look at this.
The side view works out because the 2012 beak follows the same hood, so I just had to line it up, it worked out nice! It is all about attention to detail, no matter what it is! The compliments I have been given are very heart felt and I truly apperciate it all!

Brian,
Looks Great! Have fun with the Sales people. i did when I rolled up and a few were taking a smoke break and another was with a customer. They asked what year is my car. I said it is the exclusive 2013. They were like WOW!...I was rolling! The customer with the sales person said I want one of THOSE!

ha, well its not really a 2013 grille, but I am not going to make them for a little. I am testing mine, seeing how it holds up

I don't come to this part of the forum much, so this is my first look. I consider myself a pretty good weekend warrior when it comes to making up stuff.....um, let me rephrase what I just said..... I used to consider myself pretty good. I'm not in your league at all. I really appreciate that sort of work. Great job.

Also, i thought u sold ur coupe!!! Looks like a coupe behind the Lincoln towncar.

Where ya been!!! haha Thanks
As for the accord, that's mine in the background, instead of trading it in, my parents bought it from me, to sell to my sister to give her a break, since the trade was only for 6,500. So they saved it for her till now, she just got her license today!

Great work Brian, this plus that accord bumper really shows off how talented you are (and how badly we need you here in SoCal)

In all seriousness...
Who can I email this link to upstrairs, Acura.
I also plan to "patent" it by sending it to myself in the mail to cover my butt just in case. I know at first I wasn't to crazy about protecting the idea but now I am growing a bit concerned. I don't care if jo-smo down the street duplicates one, but I would be more concerned about mass production else where.

Brian, I forwarded this thread link to the guys I know at my dealership. I asked them to look at this thread and see what they think and then to possibly forward it up the ladder.
I sure think it is VERY worthy of it!
