Magnaflow 11225's Installed

so does bolting these magnaflows on make ANY power or does it just create a bunch of noise???
most of the intake/exhaust reviews I've read - people say it makes neat sounds but zero performance....
some say the jpipe makes power, but even on that, i've read some guys saying it added a *little* bit of power..which makes me think it may not be all that impressive....
too bad no one makes an ecu for our car that would exploit the bolt on mods.....

I just got Magnaflows installed on my car today. I kept my factory tips. The sound is very intoxicating. Not too loud and not to raspy. The car seemed to drive better too. All in all i'm happy.

I just got my custom catback installed today. $515 total all stainless T304 with polished Megan mufflers and single 4" tips. The gap looks great because you can see the polished mufflers through it. I knew good and damn well a catback does not cost $1,400. I didn't even pay that for my full titanium exhaust on my CBR 1000.

Doesn't really do it justice - but you can hear that it's at least not too loud / ricey.

Hey TL folks,
Just wanted to share a few pictures from yesterday at the test fitting for the Megan Racing Catback system (4G TL 3.5). I'm lucky enough to do some R&D and get to build the system with the company. It will be a full 3'' system once it is completely built. The piping in the pictures are currently a full 2.5'' all the way through, tips I believe are not final yet, but will be dual 3'' or 3.5'' as these are samples. I think a J-pipe and test pipe are up in the air right now but I will see what I can do.
Additionally I would like to build an electric cut out 4'' after the flanges connecting the resonator piping to the cat. I also would like to test an electric cut out on the test pipe replacing the cat. I know its biased but it's a little mod on the side that I like to do on some of my cars.
This is by no means of advertisement or attempt to sell a product. I'm just the guy who gets to suggest bits and pieces. Either way the whole process of being involved and help building an exhaust system is quite exciting. I'd love any input or feedback as I will be relaying the message and this kit will go into production within the upcoming months. Hope you enjoy the camera pics!
*There are two different tips in a picture as we are just sizing it up.

i agree. I also think it looks a bit odd.. the single round tip looks out of place in the OEM rectangular hole... if you had done side by side round tips.. the dual pipes woudl have filled out the OEM cutout better.. like the aftermarket exhausts.. granted I wouldnt' want to spend $1400 just for tips.. but I think you could redo the tips and improve it a lot.
how is the sound??? i really want to hear a sound clip of this setup. if one could do a custom setup... with even OEM tips.. if it sounded good it woudl be a big savings over an aftermarket setup.

I have a FWD as well. What kind of complications did your muffler shop have with these mufflers? What did they have to do to make them fit? I want to get them but I want a clean install. Thanks.

Install Question
For anyone who had a shop install their Magnaflows, it appears it involves cutting out the old, welding in the new, adding the old tips, but also transferring (welding) the exhaust hangers to the new mufflers. Can someone confirm that is the case? I imagine any half-decent exhaust shop can manage that task and get the hangers in the right place so as not to have the tips look crooked.

no, they cut off your one of your old exhaust, and weld a new flange to the midpipe then they add a new flage that connects the mid pipe to the muffler so that it can turn your exhaust into a 3 piece exhaust instead of a 2 piece exhaust.
i professional exhaust shop can align it with no problems. dont cheap out on going to a cheap shop. read yelp, ask friends, seek people that had experience with the shops you are looking at.

The body (without inlet/outlet piping) of each 11225 muffler is only 14 inches long. I believe stock is around 16 inches.
There's a little extra space to work with... it should be a very basic muffler swap. Any good shop will tack weld in place and take a look at it from different angles to make sure it's straight before completing entire weld.
Many shops don't mind you standing there watching them do it. This way you can tell them if you think it's crooked or not.
(On a side note, if I was doing this swap, I'd paint the new mufflers a flat black to resemble the stock ones.)

Advanced
The installation won't be plug and play, but it is doable.

Ok. That sounds Nice. I don't have a new TL, but I have an older CL Type S with a 6-Speed. I installed Tanabe and i HATE IT. It's too low of a sound and the frequency of the tone it creates rattles the interior of the cab. I'm going to see if the local muffler shop with install 11225 on my car for me and he can just take the Tanabe in trade for his labor. The Tanabe is a full cat-back. And the drone/frequency the muffler's create is just annoying at anything under 2500 rpm with any type of load or un-load from the engine.

They would definitely have welded new hangers on the new mufflers. That's what they did with my magnaflows. Makes no sense to butcher the stock mufflers by cutting the old hangers off. That way you still have your stock ones if you wanna sell them or put them back on for some reason

Hi pseudo
I have sh-awd and i was thinking to just cut the muffler off and put a straight pipe
And add 4 inch megnaflow tips on it
Pleas advice

^^^ I strongly suggest you avoid going that route. You will end up with an extremely loud exhaust with a horrible tone that will backfire when you slow down.
Also, time to find a new exhaust shop...
