Help. Wife doesn't like the XLR8

New here. Bought 2012 TL 3.7. It has the full XLR8 exhaust mod. She thinks it's "too loud." (Please withhold the snarky "wife should get over it" comments). Took it to Midas and then Acura in hopes that the "loudness" could be dampened, but no luck. Both places were impressed with the setup and even Acura thought it sounded good. I think it's fine, but this is just my everyday driver with 2 boys I take with me to school. I'm not drag racing it - although I do enjoy the boost!
So do I keep the setup, or change it out? And what do you guys do with your old exhaust after you modify it? Thanks

Is it the resonated or non resonated version?

Resonated is the only version available for 4th gen. J-pipe is on it as well.

I just read the thread. Sounds like "Greek" to me. Learning as I go.. Would swapping for ATLP be worth it? From YouTube comparisons, it seems that way. But it's difficult to judge from that.

Mine also has quad exhaust, if you're wondering.

Oh ya its altp that offers resonated and non resonated catbacks.

I think you should ask yourself, does your wife like aftermarket catback exhaust systems? If yes consider getting a quieter one. If no put the OEM catback back on there. You could also consider some type of j-pipe or jpipe&hfpc with oem catback setup. I have jpipe and hfpcs with oem catback and its not at all loud until you step on it.

She's not a fan of aftermarket exhaust. But she really wouldn't care (or know the difference), if it was quiet. I bought it with the XRL8 setup on it. I So I don't have to OEM parts.

I do like the additional hp I get from it. So I'm looking for a happy medium, if it's possible.

Question

Is the OEM exhaust exactly the same on the 4th Gen 3.5 and 3.7?

I don't think they are the same. Every engine has different exhaust flow rate and also the drive shaft existence for the AWD. Every aftermarket part is different in the AWD than the FWD. May be somebody else can correct me.

You are probably right. Can someone confirm that a 2009 (3rd Gen?) 3.7 exhaust system would be the same as a 2012? I believe they only tweaked the look of it, but nothing else. But I'm not 100% on that.

2009 - 2014 are 4th Gen TL models

There was no 3.7 in the 3rd gen and they were all FWD only.

Aftermarket exhausts are sold as '09-14 for AWD or FWD. That would lead one to believe the OEM ones are also identical with the exception of the tips. So you would want to look for a '09-14 SH-AWD OEM exhaust.

OP, you have a few options here:

1. Look for a member with stock exhaust and sell/swap
2. Find a more suppress resonator like
Amazon Amazon
and have the shop replace the current one.
3. Get a new wife like thoiboi said

teh human brain is funny!
tell the wife you tamed the sound by adding a resonator.
don't actually add a resonator..
wife will think it's more quiet now.
