Exhaust Question

undecided on what exhaust to get.I have j pipe v2 which means no 3rd cat. Some feedback and opinion wold be great...Thanks in advance

justnspace 02-25-2015 02:32 PM

honestly; your options are slim and they both provide about the same hp gains. not much.

so, what it comes down to is tone and looks.
I personally love the way the XLR8 quad tips look over the ATLP quads.

and would go XLR8 just because the tips look better

4GTLSH-AWD 02-25-2015 03:48 PM

Thats another thing i want to cut and replace the tips with stock tips for some reason i like them better

justnspace 02-25-2015 04:55 PM

then probably not a great reason to get an aftermarket exhaust.
not enough gains to warrant the price tag AND you want to keep the stock tips.

instead; you could change out resonators to change the tone of the car.
this will be 10000000x cheaper while retaining stock tips.

Based on what you mentioned above I would suggest that you add the HPFC in conjunction with the J Pipe that you already have. That way you will have a drone free system that is not overly loud and never gets annoying. You retain the balance of your stock system.

That is what i am running and i love it, imho of course.

You may want to consider Magnaflow mufflers...

4GTLSH-AWD 02-26-2015 08:54 AM

I had precat deletes and custom magnaflow no 3rd cat or resonators on my type s and it sounded deep but was loud but on this one i dont want it loud unless im on full throttle ... i also have custom magnaflow resonators installed on it already

justnspace 02-26-2015 09:00 AM

so, it sounds like you know what you want already.

4GTLSH-AWD 02-26-2015 09:11 AM

Now can someone tell me the difference in noise from precat deletes to the high flow pre-cat ?

justnspace 02-26-2015 09:13 AM

because the PCD is a straight pipe; there will be no way to muffle the sound, it will be loud.

the High flow cat; is a cat, albeit a higher flowing cat than stock.
it will muffle some noise

if i recall correctly; stock cats are some where around 600-900 cell count.
the high flow cat is a 200-300 cell count cat.

4GTLSH-AWD 02-26-2015 09:15 AM

Anyone have a clip of pre-cat deletes j pipe v2 and stock cat back ?

justnspace 02-26-2015 09:17 AM

going from a 800 cell count cat to a 300 cell count cat is a big difference.

you will gain horsepower and a little noise.

but not as much horsepower and noise as a completely straight pipe.

instead of waiting around for some one to post a clip, you can google or youtube!

4GTLSH-AWD 02-26-2015 09:24 AM

I did google all i find is 3.5 type s nothing on the 3.7

justnspace 02-26-2015 09:26 AM

maybe no one has that exact combo.

but in reality; .2 liters WONT change the sound at all.

you car will sound VERY similar to my 3.2l TL

i have PCD's ---->jpipe----->exhaust.
it sounds exactly like the 3.5 type-S with that same exact combo

KarKraze 02-26-2015 10:23 AM

OP, the pre cat deletes have been known to trigger CEL in the 4G even with the defoulers. Also you will smell raw gas from the tailpipe.that could be an issue if you have to so emission tests.

No such issues with the HFPC.

4GTLSH-AWD 02-26-2015 10:37 AM

HFPC it is then thanks

You are welcome, if you go through my build thread you will find some sound clips. I also have one with the CT Engineering axle back exhaust which is probably the only clip you will find of that exhaust on a 4 G.

Our XLR8 exhaust is more for sound and looks than power, although you will pick up about 7 to 10 horsepower from it. It is also designed specifically for your vehicle and engineered to attain a great exotic tone, where universal mufflers just don't sound as good. All exhaust tubing is mandrel bent on sophisticated CNC machinery for a precise fit and uninterrupted exhaust flow. What’s more, the use of T-304 stainless steel flanges offers high strength and complete resistance to harsh elements. All hangers, resonators, and tips are T-304 stainless steel as well.

Do you guys have any pictures of the round vs oval tips side by side? I've been seriously considering your exhaust, but think the oval ones look kinda....funny? I'd prefer the round ones but if they don't fill out the exhaust gap I'd probably get oval.

Off hand I don't have a comparison picture. I can see if I can find two similar images and put them side by side.

Old thread, I know. But, my CT-Engineering exhaust has some issues. Albeit, it is just under 4 years old but I would have expected better since it is claimed to me "stainless". Good luck with your research!
