Black Headliner
I have suffered the fate of one of the many owners of old cars whose headliner upholstery fell off. The new ceiling costs $1000 and a decision was made to reupholster, ordered 4 yards of fabric from fabric empire on eBay $80, 1 quart of Polyurethane Heat Activated Adhesive Glue $72, sun visors and holder from 9 gen. Honda Accord $180, handles from 2008 Acura MDX. For minimal headliner curvature, the entire interior had to be dismantled, the passenger seat, armrest, steering wheel, radio, glove box and front right door removed. The whole process took about 20 hours. I warn everyone who wants to repeat that this is a pretty serious project.

Thank you, The main thing is time and desire, in my case there was no time, so I had to turn a 50-hour work week into a 70-hour one.
Is the light strip self adhesive? |
Altair47, how did you end up taking the headliner out? Through the front doors? I was debating on doing mine when I get my windshield replaced from a few stone chips to make it easier. Mine is sagging in the rear and I was considering doing creme/beige colored suede headliner to match the current light color. Did you strip off all the old foam or just the fabric? I've read conflicting things with no clear answer. Is the light strip self adhesive? I used Polyurethane Glue , as far as I know this is the only glue that after activation can hold a strong tension in curved places and does not corrode the foam like Neoprene glue. |
great work man! I want to change out my tan/beige interior out soon. does the headliner just pop out once other pieces are taken out? Also looking to do something similar with lighting on the door. what did you use for that?
