Any fix for slow throttle response on take off.

I hate the lag when i floor my tl from a standing position. Has anybody had success fixing this lag. I tried the sprint booster but that did absolutely nothing.

Thanks.

If you tried the Sprint Booster and it did nothing then you have other problems. I have the Sprint Booster and can assure you that the throttle response is much improved with it.
Easy to tell by simply switching it off, perhaps it was a bad unit or incorrectly installed ?

Learn the characteristics of the engine!!!
the engine makes peak torque at like 6000 RPM.
This means if you want the car to move, you'll need to rev to high heavens.
The car doesn't make a lot of torque down low. 1000-4000RPM is something like 100-150lbs/ft.

Not for nothing but I felt throttle response improvements were the most noticeable aspect of going with KTuner, including from a stop. That said, justnspace is right, these are not lowend torque monsters. Lightening unsprung weight is about the best you can do, that I can think of.

As Justnspace said, both max power and torque occur at very high revs. See VTEC

J37A4

  • 2009-2014 Acura TL SH-AWD
  • Displacement: 3,664 cc (223.6 cu in)
  • Bore and stroke: 90.0 mm (3.5 in) x 96.0 mm (3.8 in)
  • Compression: 11.2:1
  • Power; torque: 305 hp (227 kW) @ 6300 rpm; 273 lb⋅ft (370 N⋅m) @ 5000 rpm
  • Valvetrain: 24v SOHC VTEC (intake and exhaust)
  • Fuel control: Multi-point fuel injection; PGM-FI

the car, or should i say the engine, isnt designed to be a 0-60 monster.
yes, you can achieve sub-six second times...but that comes at a cost of almost abusing the car.

my car, at least, has enough torque at 3-5k...thats the sweet spot...drive in that range. then it only takes a tap of the gas to get above 5k into vtec.
that comes at a price too. fuel mileage wont be happy.

this is the whole point of vtec.
nice happy fuel mileage below 4000 RPM...
Tons of torque past 4000 RPM!

Both of these. Losing about 200lbs along with bolt-ons chased down with Ktuner has completely transformed my low end. Occasionally it gets away from me if I'm not feathery on the throttle. I've inadvertently chirped the tires on more than one occasion. And that's with an AT. Not that it's suddenly transformed into a built LS1 or something, but it's leagues above stock.

If you are flooring your car, there shall be no lag. The lag exists when you press the gas by 75% or less and this is where sprint booster works. May be doing some mods and tune will improve the car when floored. This is my understanding and I may be wrong.

Having had an '07 Type-S for several years, I just purchased a 2011 SH-AWD. Ten times better car!!!

That being said, I have the exact same problem as the author of this thread. If I press the throttle down an inch or two from a dead stop, the car absolutely launches. It is SO cool. However, when I mash the throttle to the floor from a dead stop, it is a dog.

Can someone please tell me what a "Sprint Booster" is?
EDIT: And what a k tuner is?
Thanks

It's not good on the transmission to gun it from a stop anyways. If you were to keep this car until a repair was cost prohibitive compared to the value of the car, it would almost certainly be due to the transmission. I take it easy from a stop, then stomp on it once it gets moving. Usually toward 3000 RPM's in 1st. Assuming I even want to get moving quick. Most of the time I'm in the high RPM ranges in 3rd before I really need to get moving.

If you get to around 4K in 4th (or 3rd) it pulls pretty hard. I was heading up Parleys canyon to Park City from SLC and a Ford Raptor came up pretty hot behind me. I pulled into the middle lane to let him pass then downshifted to 4th at about 70 MPH and opened it up once he started to pass. Based on weight/hp he should have had the upper hand with a 4300lb truck @ 450hp. I'd estimate I'm around 3500lbs with maybe 310hp at the crank after mods (stock is 280hp). He was clearly dropping the hammer and initially gained, but I crawled past him pretty quickly at around 5500 RPM which is about where max torque and hp is on these engines. I cut it off at about 120mph (in a 70 mind you) and had probably 3 car lengths on him at that point.

The TL ain't no race car but the J does pretty well up top.

From a stop it seems the car either launches or it doesn't depending on how much pressure is applied to the gas pedal. If it revs high in first then its super quick and first revs so fast if you blink next thing you know its not far from the red line. But yeah 3rd and 4th are where it really pulls. I love the sound my car makes when shifting gears at 5500 rpm, its addicting.

SoftwareDrone: just search on google or here on acurazine what sprintbooster and ktuner is and you'll get an answer real fast.
