USD Wave Guides & Focal Speakers in a TL? WOW!!!

A friend of mine has a 2012 TL SH-AWD and he just piled a huge amount of money into the sound system. I have no idea how much, but as he was explaining it to me, he listened to a Buick Grand National at some autosound competition about 20 years ago that had the USD wave guides, 2x12 mid base speakers in the rear side areas and 2x15 subs all driven by 2,000 watts (I think), and he was blown away. For some reason he decided that the stock sound system on the TL was not good enough so he replaced all of the speakers with Focal mid-bass and tweets, added 2x12 JL subs in the rear, and then added the USD wave guides under the dash. I don't know any other details, and not have listened to it, but he tells me that as far as clarity goes, there can't be anything more accurate and natural sounding in any car anywhere. I can't wait to hear it and see it.

Have any of you ever listened to these speakers before?

Focal has some ok and several VERY good speakers. Their lower lines are somewhat harsh sounding but it improves dramatically as you climb up the ladder to higher priced models.

I have Focal 165KR component speakers and Arc Audio 10" subwoofer in my Odyssey, and the sound is absolutely amazing and surely better than the stock TL-Tech I recently got. The TL sound is one of the best stock ones I have heard in any car I test-drove, but still a far cry from true high-end sound you can get. The sub is especially anemic and can use the most upgrade to start with.

The Focal poly-kevlars are pretty amazing. Never been impressed with their subs, but their components are top notch in my book. Stay away from the intro line though....nothing less than the references.

Running Focal 165 KR2's up front and 165 KR's in the rear, along with the mid from the KRX3 for the center channel and using a 10W7 sub thru JL Audio amps and an MS-8. I'm sure there's ways to make this better, but ...

After the warranty expires (75k), I want to upgrade the speakers only in the TL. We've had 1 blown in the RDX and 2 in the TL. Is this advisable, or should I spend the extra money on the rest of the system too.
I need good sound and use studio monitors for my home system right now.

(Sorry for the hi-jack Altegris)

It will benefit from the speaker and subwoofer upgrade for sure - big time! I may think about the amp as well, but need to see how well it can be integrated.

What else do you mean by 'rest of the system'? The head unit itself is pretty tightly integrated with everything else so I don't think it can be - or needs to be - upgraded.
