Upgrading speakers/amp on '09 non-tech TL?
Moved a couple months ago from a 2000 RL to a 2009 TL. Though I have been blown away with the TL and how much better it is than the RL in every way, there has been one notable exception; compared to my RL's Bose system, the speakers kind of suck on the TL (I love the stereo system/controls and the like, just not the sound coming out of it).
If I want to get back to boom the Bose system gave, what should I do or be thinking about? There is a good stereo shop in my area, but I don't know anything about stereo systems and I want to make sure I know what to ask for and what I might not need done.

Be ready to pay some coin. These 4G's are very time consuming for installers. Plus you'll need noise canceling adaptors (car will make a buzzing noise through speakers when vol is low).
I have the following in my 09 non tech:
JL audio 6.5'' components up front (C5-650)
JL audio 6.5" 2 way in back (C5-650x)
JL XD400/4 powering the above speakers
stock center speaker (cant hear it anyway)
MB quart 8" shallow mount sub in stock location (insulate it well; likes to rattle if not)
MB Quart RAB 1450 mono @300 rms (tiny, powers 8" perfect)
I had a JL audio W7 in HO box in the back. Hit way too hard and weighed over 100lbs with amp
Now have two Rockford Fosgate P3 10's in ported box. 25 lbs lighter and sound just right; powered by JL Audio 1000/1v2 pushing 1000 rms to the 10's.
This system cost me, but it's 10 times cleaner and louder than a Tech sound system.

Hello brother...........I also replaced an 2000 RL with an 09 TL (last June) and I also love the car but not the sound system. So here is what I did and now I am happy, pretty close to the RL sound:
I installed 6.5 inch Infinity Kappa speakers in the front doors and rear deck. I also removed the 8 inch subwoofer and put an Infinity Basslink powered sub in the trunk.
The change is very dramatic.
Overall more detailed, balanced and louder because now that I have plenty of bass I can increase the treble and center speaker settings. I thought I would have to replace the amp to get good (and louder) sound but the powered sub works well with the OEM amp.
The basslink is a 10 inch powered subwoofer/enclosure that sits/mounts in the trunk like any sub. Ran a power wire from the battery and extended the OEM sub wires down to it. The Basslink has a remote adjust feature which allows you to adjust the bass for desire sound since each station's EQ settings vary. I mounted the control in the dash by using one of those black switch knock outs to the left of the steering wheel.
I also just fixed the XM fading problem (this morning) by installing a external XM antenna. I plan to do a DIY on that.

very well done that's exactly how I would do it. the sub signal from the OEM Sub since its about 80hz. I'd plan on doing infinity reference 6.5 and even replacing the center channel 3.5 to a 4" to give a little more "fuller" voice. If I trade the 3rd gen for the TSX wagon I even plan in doing the 4" in the back doors. The reason why you do infinity or its sister jbl speakers is its the only few 2 ohm speakers to swap since the els system is 2ohm. I'm not however changing my stock sub. I will dynamat every speaker including stock sub to get the tightest midbass I can. I'm a fan of balance. My highs should match my bass.
