Trip A and Trip B Reset

When I reset Trip B it resets Trip A also; not the behavior I was expecting nor did I want. I thought each Trip reset indepenently?

I don't know, but I discovered recently that apparently each trip odometer tracks average fuel economy separately.

I have an 11 and mine does not do that. I would call the dealer. Does it do it consistantly?

yup, a and b.

everytime you refil gas, it resets if you are on a or on b.

make sure when you fill gas, you are on a side of you want to reset a or vise verse..

Yes, it's a nice feature. I leave it on trip A when I refuel and that gives me MPG for that tank; I leave trip alone and that gives me my running average.

(I hope I'm not turning into a hyper-miler, but I find myself getting frustrated when in a lot of stop and go or highway congestion because I just know it's killing my MPG!)

I stand corrected. You are right! I did not know that it automatically does that. I always reset it manually before starting to move from the gas pump. Learned something. Thanks!

I believe they are programmable through MID. I did make trip A to reset everytime when I refill the gas, so I know what I got out of this tank. My trip B never got reset from day 1, so it is actually showing the mpg for the life of the car.

its a TL, it knows everything....

but yea, my B side gets reset everytime i go in for an oil change.. so it tells me whats my overall mileage after every change.. and plus it tells me how much miles i have ran under B side so i can accurately calculate my oil changes.

That's a controversial topic... The car will tell when it thinks the oil needs changing but, you can change it every 3k miles, if you want. I just did my A1 (first oil change) and the it got to 15% @ roughly 7K miles.

Thanks for all the replies; but with all due respect, you have hijacked my question. I'm not asking anything about the MPG reset or oil changes.

1. I have the auto reset on refuel OFF.

2. I manually reset A; B does not reset.

3. I manually reset B; BOTH A and B reset.

Why does reseting B clear both A and B is my question.

No offense intended to contributors.

You're absolutely right -- we did hijack your thread. Very sorry.

As to your question, that's a stumper. I've always had my auto reset "on" for refuel, so I've not used your particular setting, but it does not seem logical that resetting trip B would also reset trip A.

Sorry man, didn't mean to do that.. I'd recommend taking it in to a dealer.

Mooring, that just doesn't sound right. I would definitely ask the dealership about it.

I have a 2011 and mine does not do that. Trip A is for tank average and trip B is for vehicle average.

Good question, though I can't (or won't) confirm, as I've never reset my trip B - it has about 3,200 miles (since I bought the car last October).
