The secret is in understanding how to set up (re diminish) the Center Channel speaker. Once I realized that the more you hightened the Center Channel, the more you draw the left/right channels into the middle (and therefore all but compress the front staging), the results were pretty amazing.

The stereo in the TL was a selling point for me, but I'm surprised it beat the LS 460. I personally haven't heard it, but I had read that audiophiles consider it the 'system to beat' for OEM stereo systems. It's definitely better than the optional stereo in the 3-series and 5-series as well.

Yep, and if the G's Bose was there, it would probably be last. Forget any "Bose" system in a Nissan car.

I have a customer who owns a very, very high end home theater and home automation company. He's used to the sound of muli-million dollar home theater systems and has had every car you can imagine, including the 19 speaker ML system in his old Lexus. He said the stereo in his 09 Tech TL is by far the best car stereo he's ever heard in his life.

i've been saying it since i test drove my car. It's the best stock stereo i've ever heard. It compares very well to the $4000 stereo i took out of my last car.

I haven't listened to the 09+ Acura TL ELS systems yet but I do believe that it sounds awesome.. I have an 06 with the ELS and it sounds pretty good.. besides the stock sub.. lol.. but I added a single sub and amp in the trunk to replace the stock sub and it sounds great now... I'll have to run down the street to my local acura dealership to have a listen one of these days...

The new ELS system is pretty nice for what it is to acura! I only wish that they'd step up their game a little bit and move to the Logic 7 territory and have an adjustable equalizer set up.

Or at least some built in EQ (even if it's in a hidden menu). Using "pots" for bass and treble just doesn't allow for personal preferences.

Wow. That really great to hear.
I knew it sounded amazing to me, but I'm no audiophile.
Congratulation Acura audio team for doing a great job!

Not that I need external justification for how much I like my ELS but its nice to see the TL mentioned in the same sentence as cars costing 2x as much (aside from genesis). Just wish the sound insulation is better.

does anyone know if the TL has active noise cancelling?

It's funny the ELS only has 10 speakers and all other system tested had 14+ speakers. Good example of more doesn't mean better. I'm sure the ML is awesome but damn, 19 speakers!?

I also do AV work, and the stock system is very impressive. A more powerful sub could of really set the system off as well as sweepable EQ's. The adjustments in the EQ section are for basic users, I need to tweak and it's just not there. However, it's still the reason I got the tech package as I didn't have to upgrade the whole audio system. Plus keeping the DVD-Audio from my first TL, love that touch!

The TSX is good, but no where near the TL. The new TL cabin is much more insulated and "tight" for a great reproduction of sound.

I'm very impressed that the TL beat those luxury vehicles with much higher priced options.
The only ELS I've listened to was from an '07 TL, and I was blown away.
How does the new '09/'10 ELS compare to the 3G TL's ELS?

Dan

The 09 ELS will blow away the 3G. Much more power and better speakers at least in the tech. Tonal wise the 4g ELS is very neutral. Except for the system in the Lexus, I have herd them all. I would not say, its THE best, but it is ONE of the best stock systems I have heard.

Acura ELS

No complaints here; I have the '09/TL/tech

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to hear the Burmester 16 speaker/1,000 watt/surround sound system, in the new Porsche Panamera/Turbo/WOW!

Listened to Donald Fagen/Nightfly, & Steely Dan/Gaucho, in DVD/A
Great bottom end; overall probably cleaner than the ELS; BUT: The Burmester option in the Panamera costs $5,700, just for the audio; it's 6 disc, & does NOT play PURE SACD's; same as the ELS.

What a vehicle; probably, the most exotic 4 passenger sedan available.
Great interior, seats, & controls

Hope my brother leases one, so I can drive it!

The 4G TL has a great stereo. It makes the 3G TL speakers sound muffled and flat in comparison.

Much crisper high notes and a sharper bass.

I agree.. Glad they keep the DVD Audio feature. I still have my DVD-A and love the fact I can show them off in my new TL..

As a long time audiophile I can tell you, the power of the amp makes the most difference. A true High quality amp is like watching HD tV. It can dig down deep into the music. I have no doubt the system you listened to was awesome. I wish I had an opportunity to hear that system myself. While I think he system in our tech package is good, its not great. One of my favorite stock system was the Bose system in the, last generation Audi 8. Pants floodering bass. I am not necessarily a Bose fan as such, but that system was decent.
