Is there a setting to remove requirement to enter PIN to access phone book?

It's a pain to have to enter my PIN to get at my phone book. I don't know why I'd want my phone book access PIN protected. I'm the only driver so only my phone is paired.

On the 3G TL, you can clear the PIN by clearing the HFL:

I don't want to remove my paired phone, just not have to enter my pin to access the phone book. I had to create a pin when I paired my phone.

I understand not wanting t have to re-pair your phone and not sure if there is another option, but just so you understand there are two differing PIN numbers here. One is the PIN to pair your phone to the HFL and there is a second PIN to unlock your address book - which is the one you want to disable.

Said another way - one allows your phone to communicate via Bluetooth to your car's HFL. It's a PIN allowing your phone to automatically connect to your car. The second PIN is a security option you enabled during the setup process to protect your address book. They are two different things. The first one is mandatory, the second one is optional.

It's a phone I bought a couple weeks ago. While I was pairing the phone I had to create a PIN to allow pairing. I don't recall being asked to create a second PIN to protect the address book. If I had been offered that option I would have declined. I only have one PIN. Maybe you are right that the only way to solve my problem is to delete and re pair, but I know I only created one PIN.

You can give it a try and see if it works. Also remember you have a 4G TL so things may have changed a little. Below are a couple of other screen shots from the 3G owner's manual -

I think the idea is if/when you valet your car or someone else is driving, they don't have the ability to go through your phone book and steal your contacts.

So the contacts would be visible even though the phone that the contacts came from isn't connected to the HFL?

Guess I'll have to resort to looking in the manual...

Exclamation Add as a trusted contact in your device

The Ic Chip s/n will be added as an allowed connection. Also open development mode if it is android by going to settings>device info> now find build number in the list tap it 7 times and development mode you added on the bottom of your setting list.and can force hard handshake or soft. This is the communication from locked device to knowing your in your vehicle and allowing it to function much easier and can remain locked

Close, but no cigar. That's for setting a PIN for the address book, not the phone book.

Looks like NBP04TL4ME is right, and I'd have to delete and pair the phone again, then "no PIN" can be selected during that process.

As I suspected, I found that when the phone is not connected to the HFL, selecting the phone book only offers to pair a phone, yes or no. The phone book is not available. So I don't see why the phone book would ever need a PIN to access it.
